Sketch o’the Week- Garrett Morris!

Last but not least of my sketches of famous characters played by the original cast of Saturday Night Live is the multitalented Garrett Morris as “Chico Escuela”, a retired professional baseball player from the Dominican Republic turned sports newscaster. Morris first appeared as Chico in a 1978 ensemble sketch set at a Knight’s of Columbus spaghetti dinner banquet, but the character then became a correspondent on Weekend Update, appearing a total of ten times from 1978-1980. Sketch o’the Week- Laraine Newman!

I’m still doing my “Saturday Night Live” character series and am working on the original cast. Since this past Saturday was “International Women’s Day” I thought I’d wrap up the last of the ladies of the first “Not Ready for Prime Time Players” with the wonderful Laraine Newman! It was tough to decide what character to draw her doing, as she didn’t really have a single, signature character that she played multiple times that was instantly identifiable with her. It’s been a little over a year since CLAPTRAP was released, and I have officially healed from the trauma of doing that much work for one project.
