After writing my own parodies for my first two appearances in Cracked Magazine, in the early spring of 2000 I was assigned the art duties working on someone else’s script for the first time. The movie being spoofed was the first X-Men film, and the writer was Barry Dutter. Barry had already been doing work for Cracked before the AMI buyout, so he was one freelancer who did continue into the Dick Kulpa era. He had writing credits at Marvel (including their “What The?!?” humor comic), Bongo Comics (The Simpsons), Ren & Stimpy Comics, and other work. He wrote a lot of stuff for Cracked… READ MORE

Q: I think it’s safe to say that caricature is a central part of your illustration career. What caused you to chose that as a focus? A: I sort of stumbled into it actually. Caricature was something I never really consciously tried to do until I got a summer job drawing caricatures at a theme park after my first year of college. It was during that summer of 1985 that I really fell in love with the art form. It’s not like I hadn’t done it before. I just didn’t really connect the term “caricature” with what I did. I drew funny pictures of my… READ MORE

We are just a little over three weeks from the end of our CLAPTRAP IndieGoGo campaign, so Des and I have decided to stop being coy about which movies are going to be spoofed in the book. Since new movies are not really a thing right now, we are going to do 100% classic/cult hits that MAD never did. You already know about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and after yesterday, The Shawshank Redemption. Well here are four more we’ll be spoofing: Goodfellas, The Big Lebowski, Blade Runner and Unforgiven! That’s six of our ten target movies revealed! The remaining four consist of the… READ MORE

This is Des and my Star Wars splash page from our spoof of “The Rise of Skywalker”, but that’s not the Star Wars splash page I’m talking about. We are guests on the “Star Wars Splash Page” podcast episode released today. I am not making this up. It’s really called “Star Wars Splash Page”, and it’s a podcast that reviews contemporary Star Wars comics, interviews creators and otherwise covers the Star Wars universe in the world of comics. Des and I had a great time chatting with hosts Matt and Jeff about MAD and CLAPTRAP. It’s a fun listen. READ MORE

We are officially one week into Desmond Devlin and my CLAPTRAP book project campaign, and we are off to a terrific start! Thanks to over 200 backers, we are already at 44% of our goal! THANK YOU to all of you who have backed the project! Here’s what’s been going on this week with the book and the campaign: Book Stuff! Des and I are already working on the second movie parody. The script is done, and I’m working on the art. We’ll be releasing a sneak peek at the splash page for this one soon. EVERYONE is going to love that we picked this… READ MORE

Here’s my take on the beautiful Salma Hayek. She’s got a lot of jaw area with a small mouth, so there’s a lot of real estate at the bottom of her head shape, which in turn makes her forehead seem smaller. READ MORE
