The newest issue of Viz (a UK humor publication) has a couple of pieces I did the art for. The one above is a take-off on an old (and apperently beloved by Brits of a certain age) British sitcom called “Steptoe and Son”, which was adapted here in the U.S. as “Sanford and Son”. Same premise, it’s an older father and son running a junk shop/collector business. I watched multiple episodes to get the feel of the show and the characters… it was damn funny, but pretty dated as you can imagine. The show ran from ’62-’65 and had a revival in the 70’s. The… READ MORE

Here’s my sketch of Bette Davis. This is another subject I did a “workshop warmup” of some time ago in one of my classes. This new drawing is based on that quick sketch. Bette isn’t just about the eyes. She has highly arched eyebrows and a “downturned” smile that gives her a kind of mischievous look. READ MORE

Here’s my caricature of the late Irrfan Khan. I haven’t had occasion to draw many Bollywood stars. Only a few of the actors from the Hindi film industry have also established careers in english-speaking films, but Irrfan Khan is one of them. I have done one “Bollywood” related piece of MAD art… sort of. Back in 2016 I was a guest at a comic con in New Delhi, India. The convention organizers asked me to do a piece of art for a print for the con… something I could sign that would appeal to local comic-con attendees. After asking a couple of friends familiar with… READ MORE

Whoopi has a very wide face, widest at the cheeks. The shape created by the area between her nose and upper lip, defined by the nasolabial furrow (the “laugh lines” that go from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth) is very prominent. She has a kind of “Grinch” smile: She also has a very small, sunken chin, and when she smiles were eyes krinkle up on the outside corners. No eyebrows! Lots of fun to draw. READ MORE
