Sunday Mailbag: Can Anyone Learn to Draw?

December 29th, 2019 | Posted in Mailbag

Q: I have career in medicine. However, I always had a great passion for drawing. Since I have spend most of adult life working and in school I had little time to allocate to drawing. I purchased your book last year and have been reading it. This leads to my question–could one LEARN to draw or is this a talent you either have or do not have? I don’t want to be a professional artist, I just want to be decent at drawing especially cartoons and caricatures. A: Ah, the age old question… is an artist born or bred? Do you need natural talent or… READ MORE

Doctor Who Print Regeneration Program!

November 29th, 2019 | Posted in News

13th Doctor fans, rejoice!!! I have an updated version of my Doctor Who limited edition print available with a special upgrade offer for owners of the original “The Doctor Makes House Calls” LE print. Read on for the details! In 2013 I created a limited edition Doctor Who print featuring caricatures of all (at the time) eleven Doctors from the long running British Sc-Fi series. It sold out pretty quickly, which was a good thing because shortly thereafter Peter Capaldi took over as the 12th Doctor, and John Hurt appeared as “The War Doctor”. In 2016 I did a new LE print with all new… READ MORE

Exclusive Tarantino Blu-ray Mini-MAD!

October 29th, 2019 | Posted in MAD Magazine

Entertainment Weekly just spilled the beans on another little project I worked on with Quentin Tarantino‘s studio and MAD for the film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, this time something for the Blu-ray release. Like most movies these days, the “home video” release will come in a lot of different packages and flavors. One of them is a “Limited 4K UHD Collector’s Edition” which will feature all the deleted scenes and extra footage of the other releases, but also a 7-inch vinyl record of a recording of Rick Dalton’s “Hullabaloo” TV show guest performance, a poster for the Rick Dalton film “Operazione Dyn-o-mite!” (which… READ MORE

Deadlines conquered. Back to real life, including getting caught up on my “Sketch o’the Week” action heroes series. I’ve decided to do a series within a series- all seven of “The Magnificent Seven!” I’m starting off with Yul Brynner. As always, the original sketch is available in the Studio Store. READ MORE

The Tarantino Story

July 29th, 2019 | Posted in MAD Magazine

This is going to be a long post because this story took place over the course of 18 months, had not a few twists and turns including my doing the final art TWICE, and ended up being something very different than what it started out to be. Plus I’ve been keeping this a secret for all this time, so I want to tell the story right. Bear with me… In March of 2018 I received an email from Chris Call of Call Props, who was serving as “Property Master” for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. Chris had found me via… READ MORE

June 29th, 2019 | Posted in News

One day left in my final European workshop of 2019, here in beautiful Seengen, Switzerland! I’m working on some possible overseas workshop locations for 2020, and of course some in the U.S. The workshop in Amsterdam last weekend was great… I’ll post that class illustration as soon as I get it done (too many deadlines before leaving for Europe)! Above is the illustration for Switzerland. READ MORE

Monday MADness: Favorite Panels- Spider-Sham!

April 29th, 2019 | Posted in MAD Magazine

This was one of my favorite panels from MAD 418 (June 2002)’s parody of the first Tobey Maguire “Spider-Man” movie, written by Dick DeBartolo (the parody, not the movie). This was the schizo scene where Willem Defoe‘s character has a conversation with his collection of creepy masks. The cameo by Russell Crowe and Ed Harris was referencing “A Beautiful Mind”… and if you are upset I just spoiled the plot of that film for you, it was out almost 20 years ago so- your fault.
