“30 Crock” Sneak Peek

Here’s a quick sneak peek at some of the artwork on the parody of “30 Rock” I did for the most recent issue of MAD:

I also really enjoyed the show itself, which I found clever and funny. It’s always better, considering the time it takes to do one of these, to have some emotional reaction to the subject matter from which to draw energy. Love it or hate it, either give you some source with which to work. Indifference is the killer… that’s when it becomes difficult to “get into it” and it shows in the final work.

Got my MAD in the mail yesterday and started reading this parody. I was noticing that the artist had really captured that sort of smirking smile that Tina Fey has. Only THEN did it occur to me to check to see who the artist was…Nice work, Tom! Nice caricatures.

  2. Matt. says:

Yeah, the caricatures are really dead on. Great parody.

Kwah ha, I haven’t bought MAD in quite some time, but this made me miss it somewhat. I particularly love when you draw in people who don’t have lines or aren’t in the story at all. Maybe you’re supposed to do that, but I love it anyway.

  4. Rinslid says:

I mean: not just the inconsequential gag people, but actual characters from the original material who simply aren’t referenced in the script. Rachel Dratch, I think she appeared within maybe three episodes, playing different people each time, and so of course wouldn’t be relevant to a sixish page comic meant to poke fun at the series as a whole, but you drew her in just the same. Yes, so, all that sort of thing.
