I am back to doing a “Sketch o’the Week” post here but also back to putting it a week behind my newsletter The Ink Stained Wretch. So, this sketch of the late Val Kilmer was seen by my newsletter subscribers last week, and they have already seen a new sketch yesterday, which blog/social media followers won’t see until next week, and so on and so forth. MAD #43 drops today and it contains 16 pages of new material (including the cover and Fold-in) including the first TV parody since “The Manmaid’s Tale” in MAD #10, Dec 2019! Desmond Devlin wrote and I drew a four pag spoof of “Squid game”. Last month also had a number of pages of new content, including a short parody of film, “The Substance”. Above is the first page of Des and my “Squid Game” spoof. What? You want to read the full parody? Go out and buy a copy, clod! READ MORE

I warned you I was going to stubbornly finish this pointless trek through my work at MAD magazine, even if it killed me and bored you to death as well. To that end, here we go with another chapter of this idiocy. This week we look back at what I thought might be the last TV show parody I would ever do for the magazine, but the issue that drops tomorrow proved me wrong (more on that later). This piece was a parody of the delightfully uplifting and light situation comedy “The Handmaid’s Tale”. This spoof was written by Tammy Golden and first appeared in… READ MORE

I don’t do many comic cons, mostly because I can’t afford to spend more time away from the studio than I already do. That said there are three I do every year that I would not want to miss, San Diego Comic Con, New York Comic Con, and C2E2. The latter one is taking place this weekend at its usual venue at McCormick Place in Chicago. One thing that is a little different with my booth at C2E2 as opposed to the other I do is I drive down to Chicago as opposed to flying, so I can bring as much stuff as can fit… READ MORE

Hey now! I am really behind in posting these looks back at my work for MAD because I have switched the majority of my social media/interweb efforts to my FREE weekly newsletter. If you are still coming here for new content, you are looking in the wrong place. Subscribe to my newsletter here. Still, I’m almost at the end of the road for the work I have done for MAD, so I might as well finish up the series here. Today we look at the second of two pieces I had in MAD #9 aka the “Tarantino Issue”. The cover and the spoof of the… READ MORE

Last but not least of my sketches of famous characters played by the original cast of Saturday Night Live is the multitalented Garrett Morris as “Chico Escuela”, a retired professional baseball player from the Dominican Republic turned sports newscaster. Morris first appeared as Chico in a 1978 ensemble sketch set at a Knight’s of Columbus spaghetti dinner banquet, but the character then became a correspondent on Weekend Update, appearing a total of ten times from 1978-1980. He was also known for his tell all book Bad Stuff ‘Bout the Mets. During the 1979 season they also did a couple of pieces about Chico’s failed attempt… READ MORE
