Remember CD-ROM games? I doubt it. They used to be a big deal. Now the mobile phones we use are 100x as powerful as the desktop computers that ran these things back in the 90’s. I’ve said many times you never know where your work might end up being used, and sometimes the most unlikely of projects will come your way when you freelance. I’m under the gun with several projects right now so I’m copping out of a new Sketch o’the Week today and posting this instead. It’s is an older sketch I colorized and used in the background of the MAD parody of the show “Mike and Molly” back in MAD number something-or-other. This is one of the most frequently asked questions I get, so every year or two I repost this mailbag answer, with updates as needed: Q: How much should I charge for an illustration?A: I get individual e-mails occasionally asking for advice on what to charge on this project or that kind of job, and the problem is that the question in basically unanswerable. My 2020 comic-con schedule kicks off two weeks from today in Chicago at C2E2. You’ll find me in booth H-4 in Artist’s Alley. I’ll have my usual bunch of crap for sale, be doing caricatures and commission sketches, etc. etc. My exclusive (i.e. you can only get one of these at my booth at this show) is an oversized print of the splash page from MAD #7, written by Desmond Devlin.
