Limited Time Perk: Tom’s Mini-Prints!

November 18th, 2020 | Posted in General

It’s coming down to the wire! Only three days to go on our campaign! It’s time to offer something new, different, exclusive, a great value, a little nauseating, and for a very limited time.  We’ve just added a new, stand-alone perk to the CLAPTRAP campaign! The “Rube” perk features a complete set of all five of my exclusive comic-con mini-prints: Clint Eastwood James Bond Adam West as Batman Alfred as the Joker from Tom’s cover of Batman-Superman #10 “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” TV Guide cover, as seen in the movie! These 6″x 9″ (TV Guide is 6″ x 8″) cardstock miniprints have previously only ever been available at Tom’s… READ MORE

Daily Coronacature- Anya Taylor-Joy!

November 18th, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Here’s my take on Anya Taylor-Joy. What a face this gal has got. She has very obvious features to exaggerate with the eyes that seem twice as big as eyes are supposed to be, plus they are extremely far apart. However that’s only part of her unique look. She also has unique and sharp lips, a widish jaw but very high angles of her mandible bone, and a tiny little chin. There is nothing about her look that is not very distinct, which makes drawing her a lot of fun. Who said you cannot caricature beautiful people?? Original of this one is available in the… READ MORE

Another Stretch Goal UNLOCKED!

November 17th, 2020 | Posted in News

Holy Veeblefetzer, Batfink! Our awesome backers just got us past the $60,000 mark on our CLAPTRAP book campaign in Indiegogo, unlocking our penultimate stretch goal. Des and I will now be adding six additional pages to the book, consisting of six movie poster parodies. That’s more laughs for the same price… cheap! One more stretch goal to go! If we hit $64K, we’ll be adding a 12th parody to the book! That’s another 6-8 pages of comedy gold, and another movie YOU get to choose! That’s right. If we unlock this last stretch goal, all backers at the “Doofus” level and up get to pick a… READ MORE

Be a Schmendrick!

November 17th, 2020 | Posted in General

We’ve only got FOUR MORE DAYS to go on Desmond Devlin and my Indiegogo campaign for CLAPTRAP, our book of MAD style movie parodies. Here’s another example of the kind of sketches I’m going to be doing in the book for those who contribute at the “Schmendrick” level and up (Yes, we’re doing a spoof of fan favorite and universally acclaimed (yet never spoofed in MAD) movie “Blade Runner”.) Again, these will not be ten minute scribbles but “Sketch o’the Week” level drawings I spend some time on. I’m limiting the number of “Schmendrick” sketches I’ll be doing to 100, which INCLUDES all the ones… READ MORE

Monday MADness: My First MAD Movie Parody!

November 16th, 2020 | Posted in MAD Magazine

With Desmond Devlin and I doing our CLAPTRAP book project to keep the movie parody comics genre alive, I thought we’d take a look at my very first movie parody in MAD. This spoof of the four time Academy Award winning film “Traffic” was written by Arnie Kogen, and appeared in MAD #405, May 2001. Clicky any image to embiggen… I did three movie spoofs (and one TV spoof) for Cracked magazine before starting with MAD, so this one was not my first actual movie parody printed in a humor magazine, but it was the first one in MAD. If you’ve ever seen “Traffic”, you’ll… READ MORE

Sunday Mailbag- MAD Meetings?

November 15th, 2020 | Posted in Mailbag

Q: Did you have the chance to meet Don Martin? He was a bit of a hero of mine when I was a kid in the seventies. Have you met many of the earlier “Usual Gang of Idiots”? A: Don Martin was also one of my favorites as a kid reading MAD in the 70’s! Sadly, no, I never got to meet him. He left MAD in 1987, so he was long gone by the time I started with MAD. In fact, he passed away in early 2000, just a few months before I got my first MAD assignment. A number of the Usual Gang… READ MORE

Trump Stamps!

November 14th, 2020 | Posted in Freelancing

I did these Donald Trump “postage stamp” illustrations for a client this fall. They were supposed to be used by “The Lincoln Project” somehow, but I don’t think they ever did whatever they were planning on using them for. Clearly it was some kind of commentary on how the Trump administration was messing with the U.S. Postal Service. READ MORE
