Monday MADness- First MAD Piece!

October 12th, 2020 | Posted in MAD Magazine

Exactly 20 years ago this week, MAD #399 hit newsstands (for you kids out there a “newsstand” was a place where people bought magazines, newspapers, and chewing gum). Pages 30 and 31 of that issue featured my first printed piece in MAD, pictured above. It was written by MAD‘s MADDEST WRITER Dick DeBartolo. We threw a MAD party at our house. I was 34 years old and my youngest kid was 4. Today he is 24, a college graduate, homeowner, and currently on his honeymoon. Time flies. I still have both the rough pencil sketch and the original inks from this job: READ MORE

Virtual NYCC Table a Wrap!

October 11th, 2020 | Posted in News

That’s it, my Virtual NYCC Artist’s Alley Table is closed up! Thanks to those that stopped by and got one of my new prints, a commission, or any of my other junk! You can always buy my prints, books, etc, in my Studio Store, I just won’t be doing comic con style (and priced) commissions until I reopen the Virtual Artist’s Alley table again. My next scheduled comic con is C2E2 March 26-28th, 2021. Who knows if that will actually take place or not. I think not… I would be amazed if we were enough out of the woods on this pandemic for something like… READ MORE

Last Chance for NYCC Commission!

October 11th, 2020 | Posted in General

Today’s your last chance to get a comic-con style commission from me at my virtual NYCC Artist’s Alley table. The table shuts down at 5pm EDT, just like it would have if I’d been set up at the Javits Center this weekend… except I don’t have to pack up all my stuff and schelp it out to the curb in NYC! This will be my last virtual comic-con offering in 2020. In fact the next time I will do one would be the end of March 2021 for C2E2 (assuming that one will not be happening). So stop on in! Sunday Mailbag- Is MAD Dead?

October 11th, 2020 | Posted in General

Q: Now that MAD is basically a reprint publication, do you consider it dead? A: I would not say “dead”. I would say it’s on life-support. First let’s dispel the persistent rumor that MAD is no longer being published. MAD still publishes bi-monthly, although it is no longer on news stands and the only way for you to get it is either in comic book shops, via mail subscription or digitally on Apple iBooks, ComiXology, Google Books and ReadDC. Yes, MAD is now almost entirely classic material. It will always have a new cover, and a new Fold-In by Johnny Sampson, but other than the… READ MORE

You did it! Thanks to our awesome backers, Des and my book CLAPTRAP is funded and is a go! We’ve already been working on the content, but now we will put things into high gear! Here’s a thank you video: We could not have done this without YOU! The movie parody genre lives on! Reddit “AMA” at 10:00 am Today!

October 9th, 2020 | Posted in News

I’m doing a “Ask me Anything” on Reddit this morning at 10:00 AM Central time (9:00 Eastern). If you aren’t familiar with Reddit, it’s a “social news aggregate” website where registered members post on different subjects and discuss. It’s structured more like the a throwback message board, and has a very strong following. One of the most popular things on Reddit are their “Ask Me Anything” events, which are curated. The Subreddit r/IAmA, which is the most popular community for AMAs, was the eighth most popular subreddit on the site with 17.7 million subscribers. During an AMA on r/IAmA and other subreddits, users can ask… READ MORE
