Tom’s Daily Coronacature: Rihanna!

April 2nd, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Here’s my take on today’s subject: Rihanna! Rihanna is a beautiful woman, and many people struggle to caricature beautiful people. That’s because all too often people expect caricatures to exaggerate what would be considered a person’s flaws… big noses, small chins, etc. Caricature is all about exaggerating what makes a person unique and recognizable from the next person. Those things can quite easily be elements of beauty as well as those of goofy. Rihanna has heavily lidded eyes, and her irises are a light, intense green that gives her a vey haunting look. She has a small nose but it is rather wide. She has… READ MORE

Tom’s Daily Coronacature: Anthony Bourdain!

I find the distance between the nose and mouth, and the mouth and chin, to be the most important to exaggerate, so that requires me to give him a short nose and a smaller forehead. He has a very wide chin and prominent lips. Expression-wise he has sad, “hush puppy” eyes and a pursed sort of mouth. READ MORE

Tom’s Daily Coronacature: Whoopi Goldberg!

March 29th, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Whoopi has a very wide face, widest at the cheeks. The shape created by the area between her nose and upper lip, defined by the nasolabial furrow (the “laugh lines” that go from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth) is very prominent. She has a kind of “Grinch” smile: She also has a very small, sunken chin, and when she smiles were eyes krinkle up on the outside corners. No eyebrows! Lots of fun to draw. READ MORE
