In a rare break from tradition, this original sketch is still available in the Studio Store! FOOD FIGHT! John Belushi had a tragically short career in film (and life). He was only a headliner in five films, and two of them were major duds (“Continental Divide” and “Neighbors”).”1941″ was bizarre and his unhinged WWII fighter pilot didn’t have much screen time, but he made the most of that one. “The Blues Brothers” is certainly the high point of his brief cinematic career, but his turn as John “Bluto” Blutarsky in “Animal House” is classic. The “food fight” scene is on many “Top 100 Movie Scenes”… READ MORE
Shelley Duvall starred in two of my favorite movies, “The Shining” and “Popeye”, and her performances in both are big reasons why they are favorites of mine. So, I had to take another pause in my “Famous Movie Moments’ series to draw Ms. Duvall as “Olive Oil”. RIP Ms. Duvall. READ MORE
Our “Famous Movie Moment” this week is both a notorious and infamous one. It’s Sharon Stone in the “leg crossing” interrogation scene in “Basic Instinct”, where it’s obvious Ms. Stone is not wearing any underwear when she switches her crossed legs. It’s notorious as being the (allegedly) most paused moment in home video history. It’s infamous because Stone claims she was asked to remove her underwear because of some lighting issues, and she only did it with the assurance that the shot would be dark/shadowy enough that no nudity would be visible. Director Paul Verhoeven claims he told her exactly what the shot going to… READ MORE
I’ve had several sudden cancellations for my workshop here in Minnesota taking place Sept 7-8 in nearby Eagan. Three spots are now open for a workshop that has been sold out for months. These are the only workshop spots still available for 2024. If you were ever considering doing one of these and are nearby or don’t mind traveling, the workshops I have here in Minnesota are by far the best ones to take, if for no other reason than the extra night of fun and camaraderie I host on the Friday night before the workshop weekend. The hotel I do the workshop in is… READ MORE
Last weekend The Lovely Anna and I travelled to Stockbridge, MA for the opening of “What Me Worry? The Art and Humor of MAD Magazine”, an exhibit of original art from the pages of MAD spanning the magazine’s entire 72 year history hanging at the Norman Rockwell Museum. I’ve been to a few exhibits of MAD art, and while they have all been good this one is by far the most comprehensive and complete. Usually these exhibits concentrate on certain eras of MAD, often the early Harvey Kurtzman comic book era or the Al Feldstein years where the format of the magazine is most familiar… READ MORE
If you watched the Sonoma NASCAR race event this past weekend you may have seen some of my work on display. TBS had me do a “NASCAR” version of the stars of “Impractical Jokers” using the same caricatures I did for last season’s key art, because James “Murr” Murray was the honorary Grand Marshall of the race. I did the car and the figures, they did the background. READ MORE
