Sketch o’the Week: Jamie Lee Curtis!

October 30th, 2024 | Posted in General

This original is still available in the Studio Store! Jamie Lee Curtis came by her “Scream Queen” moniker honestly. Her role in John Carpenter‘s 1978 “Halloween” began a whole new genre of scream queens/slasher films, but it was already “in her blood” you could say… and not the blood she left in the hallway in the movie! Her mother was Janet Leigh, one of the stars of Alfred Hitchcock‘s horror classic “Psycho”, and one of the original scream queens. READ MORE

Tom’s Virtual Artist’s Alley Table is Open!

October 17th, 2024 | Posted in General

I’m at New York Comic Con this weekend! If you can’t make it to the con, you can still get any of the comic con exclusive stuff I am doing in NYC here at my “Virtual Artist’s Alley Table”. The virtual table will be open through 5 PM CDT Sunday Oct 20th. I’ll be selling all the commissions I usually only offer at comic-cons, at the same prices I charge at comic-cons. I only do these twice a year, so now is your chance… and guaranteed deleivery in time for Christmas! What kinds of things do I ONLY do at conventions? My “live caricature” style… READ MORE

Getting My Hygge On in Denmark!

October 3rd, 2024 | Posted in General

The reason I was drawing Mads Mikkelsen (see yesterday’s Sketch o’the Week) live in front of an audience was that I was a guest at the Art-Bubble Comic Arts Festival a few weekends ago in Aarhus, Denmark. There is a big difference between a European Comic Arts Festival and a United States Comic Arts Convention. The former is a more intimate, personal celebration of the art of comics and cartooning, and people who create them. The latter is a huge sea of humanity where the focus is mostly on commerce, cosplay, TV/movies and celebrity photo/autograph ops. Don’t get me wrong, I love doing comic-cons. Amid… READ MORE

I’m a guest at the Art-Bubble Comic Arts Festival this weekend in Aarhus, Denmark! Sketch o’the Week: John Belushi!

August 21st, 2024 | Posted in General

In a rare break from tradition, this original sketch is still available in the Studio Store! FOOD FIGHT! John Belushi had a tragically short career in film (and life). He was only a headliner in five films, and two of them were major duds (“Continental Divide” and “Neighbors”).”1941″ was bizarre and his unhinged WWII fighter pilot didn’t have much screen time, but he made the most of that one. “The Blues Brothers” is certainly the high point of his brief cinematic career, but his turn as John “Bluto” Blutarsky in “Animal House” is classic. The “food fight” scene is on many “Top 100 Movie Scenes”… READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week: Shelley Duvall!

July 24th, 2024 | Posted in General

Shelley Duvall starred in two of my favorite movies, “The Shining” and “Popeye”, and her performances in both are big reasons why they are favorites of mine. So, I had to take another pause in my “Famous Movie Moments’ series to draw Ms. Duvall as “Olive Oil”. RIP Ms. Duvall. READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week: Sharon Stone!

July 17th, 2024 | Posted in General

Our “Famous Movie Moment” this week is both a notorious and infamous one. It’s Sharon Stone in the “leg crossing” interrogation scene in “Basic Instinct”, where it’s obvious Ms. Stone is not wearing any underwear when she switches her crossed legs. It’s notorious as being the (allegedly) most paused moment in home video history. It’s infamous because Stone claims she was asked to remove her underwear because of some lighting issues, and she only did it with the assurance that the shot would be dark/shadowy enough that no nudity would be visible. Director Paul Verhoeven claims he told her exactly what the shot going to… READ MORE
