HITS Magazine Cover
I collaborated with MAD art director and illustrator Sam Viviano on this cover for the latest issue of HITS Magazine, which celebrates their 30th anniversary. He did the layout and composition, I did the finished illustration. I”m not sure what the Alfred E. Neuman connection is, but he’s been on their covers before. The other caricatures are of major music label executives and producers. READ MORE
Sunday Mailbag: Art of… Book?
Q: Your Sketch o’the Week book looks great. When are you going to do a “The Art of Tom Richmond” book, with high quality reproductions of some of the work you’ve done? A: Never say never, but pretty much never… for a couple of reasons. Vanity press books are not my thing. I had to do a lot of self convincing to do the “Sketch o’the Week” book because I feel if one is going to do a book, the content needs to be more than just a bunch of eye candy. The only reason I did the SotW book was that it would give… READ MORE
Happy Anniversary Stan and Julie Sakai!
Stan Sakai is one of the most talented and beloved creators in comics. His Usagi Yojimbo comic series is a marvel of the art of comic book storytelling, among many other terrific projects he’s worked on. He’s also one of the kindest and most humble people you will ever meet. Without going into it Stan had a lot of personal heartbreak in his life not that long ago. I’m glad to say he celebrated his one year anniversary to his beautiful new bride Julie yesterday, and there few to whom happiness, peace, and contentment is more deserved and well-bestowed than Stan. He commissioned me to… READ MORE

Back from NYCC!
Whew, that is a very busy show. Thanks to all who stopped by and said hello! I am now paying the price of being out of the studio for almost a full week so I have no time to blog right now… but here is a smattering of some of the commissions I did at the show this year: READ MORE
Workshops Wrap-Up
As many of you know, I spend the last two weekends conducting workshops on caricature in the nearby city of Eagan, MN. Both workshops started with a Friday night welcome party at my house and a look at my studio, and continued at the host hotel on Saturday and Sunday. Each workshop had 13 students. Here’s a brief synopsis of what we did: Friday night: The entire group came over to Casa del Richmond for some of The Lovely Anna’s culinary goodies, a few adult beverages, a goody bag full of stuff, and a tour of the studio. I showed the group the process I… READ MORE
