Las Vegas Workshop Announced!

August 11th, 2023 | Posted in General

I just completed one of my workshops last weekend in Denver. We had a great group and a lot of fun drawing together for two days! Class artwork above. I just announced one final workshop for 2023, this one taking place Dec 2-3 in Las Vegas. You can register for a spot here. The Lovely Anna is having knee surgery in early 2024, so there will be a pause on my workshops from then until probably the late spring or early summer. I MIGHT be able to get one squeezed in in early January before Anna goes under the knife. We’ll see. People ask me… READ MORE

Everybody and their brother has posted a drawing of Paul Reubens AKA “Pee Wee Herman” since the news of his passing, but I could not do anyone else for the “Sketch o’the Week” this week. RIP. READ MORE

Getting Ghoulish!

July 26th, 2023 | Posted in General

Last week MeTV horror movie show host extraordinaire Svengoolie revealed that I am one of this year’s “Artist Collection” artists doing an illustration for his show merchandise. The “Artist Collection” is a lineup of five artists from Svengoolie Fandom that each do a piece of art honoring the show and its ghoulish host. Last year’s lineup was stellar with Jim Engel, Bill Morrison, Mitch O’Connell, Scott Shaw, and Jill Thompson. So far this year they’ve announced Mark Spears and me. I was very honored to be asked to be part of this year’s group. The art you see above is my piece. As I say on my artist’s page on… READ MORE

My 2023 lineup of caricature workshops only have a handful of spots left! If you have been considering taking one of my weekend long classes, don’t wait too much longer! Minnesota and Orlando have been sold out for weeks. Denver had been sold out for weeks until this morning, when one spot opened up due to a cancellation and a depleted waitlist. There are a few spots left in Dublin and San Fransisco, but that’s it! Book a spot soon before they are all sold out: READ MORE

Al Jaffee: 1921-2023

April 10th, 2023 | Posted in General

I just got confirmation that the incomparable Al Jaffee passed away early this morning at 102. This is a hard one. Within any art form there are some creators who are just plainly on another level than the rest. There will always be a debate about who is the G.O.A.T. in anything creative, but the sign of true greatness is always being one of the people in that conversation. Any debate about the greatest cartoonist of all time that does not include Al Jaffee is not a legitimate debate. Like so many, I grew up a fan of MAD Magazine. I loved the work of… READ MORE

MADness #66: Breaking Bad!

February 6th, 2023 | Posted in General

I knew I shoulda turned left at Albequerque! Welcome to another miserable MAD Monday, where we continue our decent into the drug-addled abyss that was my work for MAD Magazine. When you think about it, this whole look back at my MAD work is a little like meth… it makes you sick and you don’t want to keep doing it but now that we’ve started we just can’t stop! This week we take a look at one of my favorite pieces I did for the magazine. One of the questions I get asked a lot is “is it easier to do a spoof of a… READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- Jenna Ortega!

January 25th, 2023 | Posted in General

The Lovely Anna and I finally watched the last of the new “Wednesday” show on Netflix staring the perfectly cast Jenna Ortega as the titular character. We enjoyed it quite a bit. Tim Burton did a great job reimagining Charles Addams‘s characters and world for the show. Those people who complain that the show was too dark and that Burton “didn’t understand the characters” are mistaking this as a reboot of the 60’s TV show. It’s not. “Wednesday” is based on original Charles Addams cartoons. Same source material as the 60’s show, but a different take. In fact, Burton was far more true to the characters and the cartoon vibe than… READ MORE
