Today in Woodbury, MN!

March 12th, 2016 | Posted in General

If you are near the Twin Cities, come out and see me at the Sound+Vision MN Pop Culture Collectibles show today! I’ll be at the Valley Creek Mall from 9 am-3pm drawing caricatures and doing sketches, plus I’ll have my usual bevy of prints, books, copies of MAD‘s and some original MAD art for sale. It’s free admission and free parking! Plus they have an ACE Hardware store so you can pick up that drywall spackle you’ve been meaning to get to fix the dent in your hallway. READ MORE

Crazy busy right now so here’s a quick look at a finished inked page from the humorous zombie comic “Z-People” I am doing for a company called Sitcomics. It’s a super sized 45 pages. The comic will be out this summer. READ MORE

No Respect with Spec

Those who create art for a living, be it writing stories, drawing pictures, creating comics, making films, etc., are constantly fighting the bizarre conception among the rest of the world that what we do is effortless and not really work. The creative layperson seems to think that what we do is so much fun, getting paid for it is just an added bonus. Since what we create isn’t made from bricks or wood or plastic or any other tangible material other than our heads (and maybe a little paper, ink and paint), it isn’t really worth anything. Come See me in Woodbury!

February 18th, 2016 | Posted in General

I’ve been invited as a special guest at a one-day mini pop culture/comic book show called “Sound+Vision MN” on Saturday, March 12th at the Valley Creek Mall in Woodbury, MN. It’s a small show, but there is no admission cost and free parking, so it’s a real bargain! I’ve never been to the show before so I imagine there will be several vendors selling cool toys, comics, etc. I’ll have my usual comic-con setup complete with signed copies of “The Mad Art of Caricature”, a pile of MAD magazines (sold at cover price, signature free!), all of my different limited edition prints and my comic-con… READ MORE

A Nice Note about my Digital Book

February 11th, 2016 | Posted in General

I received this the other day via email: Dear Tom, I started caricature wood carving about 6 months ago. Recently reading the blog of Don Mertz, a well known caricature woodcarver, he highly recommended your book. Much to my delight and surprise I found it on your web site. I know the risk involved in producing non-DRM ebooks,… READ MORE
