Points for Facebook!

February 9th, 2016 | Posted in General

A few days ago a fellow caricaturist alerted me to a Facebook post that was using a caricature sketch of mine of Jay Leno as part of a political propaganda message (see image above, the “Stolen Image” added by me so no one is confused as to why this is on my blog). This angered me greatly. God knows I’ve done artwork for some conservative political groups, but I get PAID for that. I often just roll my eyes at this sort of thing, but this one I couldn’t just let slide. To top it all off, they intentionally cropped out the clear copyright I… READ MORE

NCS President Bill Morrison!

February 5th, 2016 | Posted in General

If you are a member of the National Cartoonists Society, you’ll have seen this caricature I did of new President Bill Morrison from his latest column in the The Cartoon!st. Actually, come to think of it, if there was one thing I learned from spending four years serving as president it was that NOBODY reads the president’s column. So, this will be new to you as well! It’s a little preview of what’s to come at the Reuben Awards Weekend this year in Memphis… Anyway, Bill took over for me in May at the last Reubens, and is doing a great job as president. The… READ MORE

Mystery Con Rep (or is it a Con Rep “Con”)?

February 4th, 2016 | Posted in General

Last week I received a message from super-star comic book artist Tony Moore (The Walking Dead) asking me if I had ever heard of a guy named Scott Roush. Tony is running his own comics convention and was contacted by this person who claimed to be representing hundreds of comic book artists/cartoonists for appearances at conventions, offering to bring in anyone on his extensive list. Apparently I was on this list. That was news to me. Just yesterday another super-star comic book artist, my good pal Doug Mahnke, sent me a note with a link to an article on BleedingCool about this Roush character called… READ MORE

Sunday Mailbag- Writing Submissions?

January 31st, 2016 | Posted in General

Q: I have a friend who has written a comic book script for some already established DC/Marvel characters. He would like to get it published, but doesn’t know how. Should he call the company’s front desk and ask, or get in touch with an editor via e-mail or website? I haven’t come across this situation specifically for comics, and am trying to point him in the right direction.  A: I’m not well versed in the writing side of things, but my advice would be to snail-mail the script to the offices of the publisher as listed in a given comic’s masthead, and to the attention… READ MORE

Sunday “Glenn-efit” in Las Vegas

January 22nd, 2016 | Posted in General

Just a reminder, I’ll be joining a gaggle of Las Vegas area caricaturists this Sunday at the Downtown Crown Pub in Las Vegas from 1 to 4 pm to benefit the medical and rehab fund of Glenn Ferguson, our fellow caricaturist who was badly injured in a brutal attack on Jan 1st. We’ll all be drawing live caricatures for donations, and there will be a raffle with some great prizes including massage and spa packages, tickets to Penn and Teller, signed prints and books, and an original page of of my MAD art from the parody of “House of Cards”. There will also be belly… READ MORE

What Gets Drawn in Vegas…

January 19th, 2016 | Posted in General

I’ll be drawing live caricatures along with a bunch of other Las Vegas area caricaturists this Sunday from 1-4pm at the Downtown Crown Pub, all proceeds to benefit the support fund of Glenn Ferguson, whose plight I have shared previously. It just so happens I was going to be in Vegas for a different fundraising effort from Monday-Wednesday, and when I found out about this I was able to change my flight to arrive a day early and participate. There will also be a raffle for which I have donated a page of my original MAD artwork. The event is being organized by Celestia Ward… READ MORE

Holy 50th Anniversary, Batman!

January 12th, 2016 | Posted in General

It’s been fifty years since the debut of “Batman” on ABC, starring Adam West, Burt Ward and a host of big stars of the day as super-villain guest stars! I was still patiently awaiting being born on January 12th, 1966 when the first episode aired, so I caught the reruns when I was a little kid in the late 60’s. Frankly I have this TV show to blame credit for a life long love of comics. Thanks, William Dozier! READ MORE
