Sorry for the poor scan, but this is the only image I have of this piece. This was a spot illustration for Minneapolis/St. Paul magazine back in 1995 of some of the stars of the stage musical “Victor/Victoria”, pictured are Julie Andrews, Tony Roberts, Michael Nouri and Rachel York. The Broadway show premiered in a test run here in the Twin Cities in the summer of ’95, and then had a couple of years on Broadway. This was done in ink and watercolor on illustration board. This job is another example of the occasional one where the artwork never ends up being used. That’s rare in publication work but not to rare in advertising. Ad agencies will often work up multiple campaigns for the same product to a final or almost final level and then the client decides which one to use. This was one of those jobs. This project was for Hardee’s restaurants circa 2009, and was art for an ad promotion for their newest sandwich offering… the “Philly Cheesesteak Thickburger”. These are two images I did for an advertising campaign for a “car storage” company on the west coast in 2007. They were selling a service where they stored and pampered expensive cars for people. This is a good example of the type of bread and butter jobs freelancers do that are far from sexy but help pay the bills. READ MORE

Back in the late 90’s a company called Parroty Interactive contracted me to do art for a series of spoof computer games. This was back when such games came on these shiny disks called “CD ROMS”. I did varying amounts of art for different games with titles like “The X-Fools” and “Winblows 98”. The project I did the most work for was a game called “Star Warped”, which was obviously a take on Star Wars. Back in 2006 a company that wanted to market a series of drinking mugs featuring the caricatured heads of celebrity athletes called “Mugheads” called me to do some caricatures for some prototypes. The idea was they would pitch these to pro sports teams as stadium giveaways, etc. The product never got off the ground but they did produce a couple of prototype “mugheads”, including one of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. Back in late 2008 and early 2009 I did a series of spot illustrations for a small newspaper in (I think) North or South Carolina called “The Independent”. They accompanied a weekly feature with stories on local politicians/business people and other local “color”. Some were caricatures of the locals and some were just cartoons.
