MAD #2 Sneak Peek!

May 10th, 2018 | Posted in MAD Magazine

The crew at MAD Magazine are starting to release little sneak peeks at what’s coming up in MAD #2. The image above is from my piece in the issue, written by Ian Boothby. It’s a VERY close up cropped part of a panel from what is kind of a movie parody but isn’t really a movie parody… but is a movie parody. Why Ms. Pacman? You’ll just have to wait until June 5th to find out! That’s when MAD #2 hits the stands. Incidentally, if you are not following MAD on social media and the interwebbies, what are you waiting for?? They are doing original… READ MORE

May 7th, 2018 | Posted in MAD Magazine

Okay, the MAD offices in New York have only been closed for about four months so it might be a little too soon to use the word “reunion”, but we had a little get together of “The Usual Gang of Idiots” this past Saturday in Manhattan. I was in town teaching a workshop. Here are some pics! From left to right are former editor Charlie Kadau, his lovely lady Ellen Berg Cohen, writers Desmond Devlin and Dick Debartolo*, and former art director and longtime MAD artist Sam Viviano. *Dick is not only MAD‘s Maddest writer, he’s also MAD‘s Fastest Idiot. He’s so fast normal photography… READ MORE

MAD #1 Sneak Peek #2!

April 19th, 2018 | Posted in MAD Magazine

The second parody I drew for the new MAD #1 was different than your typical MAD spoof. Ostensibly it is a parody of the CW show “Riverdale”, but it begins as a sort of sequel to Bill Elder‘s famous “Starchie” parody from MAD #12 way back in 1954. Ian Boothby‘s script required me to draw in Bill Elder’s style for the first three pages, before “Starchie” and “Bottleneck” are sent forward in time to Riverdale (uh… I mean Riverdull) 2017. From then on it’s my usual style featuring caricatures of the “Riverdale” cast. Here are sample panels from this nine page extravaganza: The above is… READ MORE

MAD #1 Sneak Peek #1!

April 17th, 2018 | Posted in MAD Magazine

Here’s a sneak peek of my art from the first of two parodies I did for the new MAD, “Star Bores: Half Assed Jedi” written by Desmond Devlin. The splash page art above includes some digital work I did on the “scroll” of text, which new MAD art director Suzy Hutchinson improved upon in the final printed version. Below are a few panels from the story pages. Huh? Whaddaya mean you want to “read the jokes”? What do you think this is, a furshlugginer library?!? Go out and buy a copy of MAD #1, clod! It’s on news stands TODAY! READ MORE

MAD #1 In The Wild… Early?

April 13th, 2018 | Posted in MAD Magazine

Bleeding Cool reported earlier this week that: Due to an error, today, comic book retailers got the newly relaunched and rebooted MAD Magazine a week earlier than they should have done.
