I know Newsarama already posted the first two pages of this parody, but here’s a look at some of the other panels from the rest of the spoof… Incidentally, I inked everything except the splash page digitally on my new Wacom Cintiq 27QHD for this job. I last tried that with the parody of “Green Lantern” several years ago. Results were better this time but still not as good as when I use the real thing IMO. Whaddya mean you want to read the jokes in the word boxes??? Whaddya think this is, a fershlugginer library? Go out and buy a copy, clod! READ MORE

Ordinarily I have to wait until the issue actually hits the stands before I can share any of the work I did in the latest MAD. However, Newsarama posted an exclusive sneak peek at Dick DeBartolo and my parody of the HGTV show “Fixer Upper”… so the cat is out of the bag! Splash page above, page 2 here: Incidentally, just for fun I drew my good friends Ed and Heather Steckley in as the couple on the show (so to speak)… at least they were my friends until they got a load of this. MAD #541 is slated for newsstands on Aug 16th, but… READ MORE

For those people who can’t or don’t want to use the native iOS or Android apps for getting their bimonthly MAD fix, DC Entertainment recently announced MAD Magazine will now be available on the popular digital magazine newsstand Magzter. This is great news as The Magzter app is available on the web, iOS, Google Play, Amazon App Store, Kindle Fire and is expanding to more platforms soon, making digital MAD much more platform independent. From the official press release: “The ‘Usual Gang of Idiots’ at MAD Magazine is very pleased to partner with Magzter in growing the online distribution of MAD. We are confident that… READ MORE

At Comic Con this past week MAD announced the release of a FREE ebook called MAD Dumps on Trump, where they have collected over 100 pages they’ve done over the years making fun of “The Donald” from “The Apprentice” through the 2016 election campaign. It’s absolutely free, or in other words the equivalent of the value of a degree from Trump University. This new ebook is sure to elicit two things: riotous laughter from readers and lots of angry emails accusing MAD of being a “liberal rag” from people who either haven’t actually read the magazine to see all the shots they’ve taken at Obama,… READ MORE

Comedian Gilbert Gottfried and writer Frank Santopadre do a terrific podcast called “Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast!”, and they recently posted a MAD-centric “mini episode” featuring senior editor Joe Railoa and writer Desmond Devlin. It’s a lot of fun so take a listen. By the way, among his long list of writing accomplishments like doing comedy material for a who’s who list of comedians, TV shows and publications, Frank is also a long-time writer for MAD. In factr he and I collaborated once on a feature called “Honey Boo Boo’s Family Circus“. READ MORE

The Hollywood Reporter had an exclusive announcement last week about this book I have been working on with MAD editor Dave Croatto, so I guess it’s okay to talk about it now… it’s been very hush hush since I got the assignment back in April. The book is pretty self explanatory, I think. It’s a mashup of the classic children’s book Goodnight Moon and everybody’s favorite caped crusader. The Hollywood Reporter posted the cover and a couple of the interior spreads: You’ll just have to wait until November when the book is released to see the rest of the goods. It’s a clever script from… READ MORE

Over on one of the several MAD Magazine Facebook fan groups someone shared a link to my sneak peek of the parody of “Batman v Superman” in the current issue. Someone then posted the following comment: Were parodies always months late? They seemed to be more current. I hear that now and again, and I’ve blogged before about how the distribution of films these days is very different from the 60’s-90’s, when films opened in bigger cities and trickled down to smaller ones over the course of several months. It might seem like MAD got their movie parodies into the magazine faster because the films… READ MORE
