On August 1st I will be in St. Simons Island, GA, attending the opening reception of the Jack Davis retrospective show “Jack Davis: From the Beginning” and taking part in a panel discussion on Jack’s career and his influence on humorous illustration. This all takes place beginning at 5:00 pm at the Glynn Art Association building. The panel will include myself, longtime MAD editor Nick Meglin and illustrator/cartoonist Jack Pittman. We’ll be discussing all things Jack. This is a ticketed event with limited seating…you can visit this page for more info. The digital version of the MAD Superman Special is available for purchase via the MAD iPad app (including a nifty animated version of my cover which justifies all that work I did on the cityscape). What’s more, according to the above announcement within that very downloaded collection of dreck the first 23 issues of MAD are also now available through the app or Comixology. I haven’t actually tried to see if I can download them, but they are either ready to go or obviously on the way soon! fa fa fa! READ MORE

Some months ago MAD quietly redid their website and got rid of the separate official blog formerly known as “The Idiotical”. Actually DC rebranded all their websites, and MAD was along for the ride. They merged the blog with the rest of the site so it became one central place to go and get daily updates, news, gags (and gagging), shopping etc. Now when you visit, there is a two column staggered list of teasers ala a Facebook wall, with the latest MAD tomfoolery. They still post original content, often of the parody movie poster or TV ad variety, plus sneak peeks of stuff from… READ MORE

Yesterday Entertainment Weekly released an exclusive sneak peek at the cover of MAD #521, check it out here. As you can see, MAD will be pillaging Game of Thrones, which I did not do the art for… and also exercising their license to kill on “James Bond”, which I DID do the art for! Is it a parody of Skyfall? A spoof of all 50 years of 007 movies? Gratuitous caricatures of half naked Bond girls? You’ll have to wait for the issue to hit the stands to find out! Fa Fa Fa! READ MORE
