Q: I read in your blog post about the increasing scarcity of original commercial art that you have never done a cover for MAD Magazine proper. I was wondering when we are going to see a Richmond cover? A: The post the question is referring to is here, if anyone is interested. The answer to your question is likely next door to never. MAD‘s covers are a different animal than the interior art, and most require a certain style of artwork that is not my fort?¬©: the realistic painting. MAD covers are singular and necessarily high impact gags that the editors and staff spend a… READ MORE

As promised, here are some of the images from my parody of the new Harry Potter movie in MAD #507, written by Desmond Devlin: Splash page- Click for a closer look… Here’s the pencil rough of the splash- Click for a closer look… A few panels from the story: I got a bit of a surprise when The Lovely Anna mentioned she’d like to appear in this parody, specifically as the character “Mafalda Hopkirk”, who Hermione impersonates to get into the Ministry of Magic in the film (and the book). Thus: Yes, that’s The Lovely Anna in the striped suit being bossy… My apologies to… READ MORE

This is just a reminder that there is still plenty of original artwork straight from the pages of MAD available on The Great MAD Art Sale page. A lot of pieces have been snapped up, but many more remain including full parody pages from movies like “Traffic” (Oscar award winner), “Behind Enemy Lines” (Oscar Meyer winner), “The Royal Tennenbaums” (Oscar the Grouch winner) and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” (Oscar Madison winner), as well as TV shows like “Scrubs”, “Entourage”, “Dog the Bounty Hunter”, “the Bernie Mac Show”, “America’s Most Wanted” and “Boston Public”. I’ve been accused by some very well respected pals… READ MORE

Click to visit Anton’s blog for a look at all his GLEE parody art Anton Emdin is a incredibly talented cartoonist and illustrator from Sydney, Australia who does work for the Aussie version of MAD. I’ve had the pleasure to meet Anton both at the Australian Cartoonists Association’s Stanley Awards last year (where he brought home the Stanley for Best Illustrator, and did so again this year!) and this past year at the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Weekend, where we were both nominated for the award for Magazine Feature/Magazine Illustration (we both lost). A few months ago Anton emailed me to say he’d been assigned… READ MORE
