The International Society of Caricature Artists (ISCA, formerly known as the NCN) 2009 Annual Caricature Convention and Competition is fast approaching on November 2nd-7th in Sandusky, Ohio. If you are a caricaturist either doing the live thing or for publication and have never attended one of these events, you are missing something special. Q: Now that MAD has gone to quarterly, how much has that affected your freelance workload? A: While I have many other clients sadly there is no question that without the MAD work I am far less busy than I used to be when they were 12 issues a year. For example, I was notified about the move to quarterly in February while I was working on the art for the “Watchmen” parody. At that same time the previous year (2008) I was doing the art for MAD‘s parody of “Heroes”. At this point of the year (mid August) in 2008 after finishing “Heroes” I… READ MORE

Marginal Talent Dept. That headline is a joke, or course. The only thing marginal about the talents of Sergio Aragon?¬©s is the placement of one of his ongoing MAD magazine contributions (i.e. those great cartoons in the margins of each issue). You can see for yourself now that his original art show is now on exhibit at the Ojai Valley Museum through October 4th. There are several events Sergio will be appearing at during the show, including: Opening Reception – Saturday, August 22, 5-7 pm $25 per person By reservation only Download invitation and reply card (pdf) August 30:¬¨‚Ć Cartooning with Sergio October 4:¬¨‚Ć Sergio… READ MORE

I’m incredibly swamped with all the stuff I didn’t do when I was in Colombia, so I have to cop out of the “sketch o’the week” this week. Instead here are a couple of the pencil sketches from the Bo Confidential book I shamelessly plugged yesterday. I’ll leave you to figure out who the caricatures are of. READ MORE
