This week’s Monday MADness is a look at the splash page of MAD #515 (June, 2012)’s parody of the first “Hunger Games” movie, written by Desmond Devlin. Here’s the pencil roughs… I redid the caricature/pose of Stanley Tucci‘s “Caesar Flickerman” character as well as some other tweaks in the final: READ MORE

MAD often had a knack for predicting the future, mostly because in pointing out the absurdities, hypocrisies, and fallacies of their subject matter through satire, they were usually right on target. Incidentally I posted this in honor of this past weekend’s release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, which I actually got to see and enjoyed quite a lot. Since it looks like MAD has abandoned their long running TV/movie parody features, it seems that “Star Wars: The… READ MORE

I was surprised to see (mostly) my art on the cover of the the latest issue of Australian MAD. This is an altered version of this variant cover I did for Batman/Superman #10, April 2014: Someone added the Joaquin Phoenix “Joker” makeup to the original art for the new cover. No, I did not get paid for this. In fact I didn’t even know about it until someone posted the cover pic on a MAD group in Facebook. That’s the wonderful world of work for hire. READ MORE

Looks like “Terminator: Dark Fate: is already terminated at the box office, having opened at only $29 million in North America when $40 million was projected (apparently less people than expected wanted to see a 72 year old Arnold Schwarzenegger and a 63 year old Linda Hamilton playing action heroes onscreen). So, here’s a look at the art for MAD‘s spoof of “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” i.e. “Interminable 3: Rise of the Bad Scenes”, from MAD #432, August 2003 written by Dick DeBartolo. Arnuld was a relatively youthful 56 at the time. Of course we still made fun of how old he was… READ MORE
