Monday MADness- MAD #6 Favorite Panel #1

February 25th, 2019 | Posted in General

I shared a peek at the “Merry Poopins goes to the White House” splash page from MAD #6 last week, but that feature I did with writer Ian Boothby was six page long. So for the next few weeks I’m going to post a favorite panel from each page. This was my fav from page 3, mostly because of the background gag. I drew in a “David” statue with Trump‘s head, with a cell phone of course, and with even more enormous hands that the real David has. I think that is a gag but I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump hadn’t commissioned something like… READ MORE

Monday MADness- A Favorite Panel from MAD #406

February 11th, 2019 | Posted in MAD Magazine

Comedian Tom Green is sort of back in the public eye right now being a contestant on “Celebrity Big Brother”. Coincidentally he appeared in my favorite panel from my very first MAD job… the first assigned to me that is. It was actually the sixth feature I drew that saw print in the magazine. MAD would sometimes give a kind of “test” assignment to new artists. You got paid for it and everything, but the subject was usually an “evergreen” piece, meaning it could be run anytime as it was not of a timely nature (thus “evergreen”). This was from “MAD‘s Cable TV Viewing Odds”… READ MORE

Monday MADness- Favorite Panel: Malcontent in the Muddle!

January 28th, 2019 | Posted in Monday MADness

I few weeks ago I started occasionally sharing favorite panels from the art I did for each of my 2018 parodies in the “new” MAD Magazine. I figure this would make a good ongoing series, especially for my usual “Monday MADness” posts. I might as well start from the very beginning, so here is one of my favorite panels from my very first ‘continuity’ (the MAD staff term for a movie or TV parody), the parody of “Malcolm in the Middle” from MAD #403, March 2001, written by Desmond Devlin So, why this panel? Honestly this was a choosing of lesser evils. I did this… READ MORE

Monday MADness- Extreme Home Makeover!

Today’s Monday MADness is a look at the pencil roughs, final pencils ( of the splash at least… a rare occurrence as I seldom scan my final pencils in before inking) and the colored final art from the Dick DeBartolo penned parody of “Extreme Home Makeover” from issue #460, December 2005. Yikes, I used to over-paint my work. Everyone looks so shiny! Clicky any to Embiggen… READ MORE

Monday MADness: Some Favorite Panels from MAD #1

Considering I sort of did three parodies in the first issue of the New MAD, I guess I need to choose three favorite panels. The one above is one of my favorites from the “Star Bores: Half Assed Jedi” parody, written by Desmond Devlin. The two below were some of the more fun ones from “Starchie: Reconstituted” and “Riverdull”, both written by Ian Boothby. READ MORE
