This is a tough one. One of the greatest cartoonists and caricaturists artists who ever touched pen to paper passed away last night.. the incomparable Mort Drucker. It would be difficult to adequately describe the influence Mort had on multiple generations of cartoonists, not to mention caricaturists. Virtually any professional comic book artist will light up at the mention of his name and praise his work, regardless if the work that they do has any obvious influence from Mort’s work. Last week I did a little tour of my studio and an inking/drawing demo on the National Cartoonists Society’s Instagram. Unfortunately Instagram does not save that sort of video, and in fact the entire first hour with the studio tour was lost right after it was done because I had to start a new video feed to continue past that first hour, and that replaces the previous “story” instantly. It looks like the denizens of Planet Earth are looking at weeks, perhaps longer, of borderline house quarantine over the coronavirus pandemic. Like so many, I’ve seen my income basically grind to a halt. My theme park operations are closed, upcoming workshops all cancelled/postponed, freelance work on hold. Times are tough.
