Next week I’ll be at New York Comic Con, and as I’ve been doing at conventions this year I’ll have a limited edition, exclusive print available. This oversized print (13? x 19?) of the splash page from MAD‘s parody of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” from issue 1 is limited to only 25 prints. All are hand signed and numbered. ONLY available at New York Comic Con next week. If I don’t sell them all the remainder will be shredded. These will not be available from me online. You’ll find me at booth A-16! Hope to see you in the Big Apple!! READ MORE

Last month I appeared at the Michigan Comic Con in Detroit, and did the art for the official poster. This poster was a give away but only available at the convention, and they ran out on the final day. It’s obviously an homage to the cover of MAD #243 (Dec 1983), which for the record was their idea not mine, although adding Alfred and the other chicken fat gags were me. I’ve had enough inquiries about getting one of these prints that I am just going to put the handful I got from the convention up in the Studio Store. They’ll ship rolled up and,… READ MORE

The NCS auction of original Popeye art ends tomorrow and virtually everything is at ridiculously low prices. I was going to point out a few that were currently at “steal” levels but there are so many like that I’d be naming them all. There are ten Rueben winning cartoonists, two Pulitzer prize winners, multiple artists on big time comic strips/comic books, well known illustrators, and one animation legend whose pieces are going for between $1 and $210, and most are less than $50. My piece above is at only $100 right now, an original watercolor!! Do yourself a favor and go put some bids on… READ MORE

Announcing my first few workshop locations in 2020! I’m trying to go to some new areas of the country as well as back to some places where the demand is high. So, my first two are a little of both. In January I’ll be doing a workshop in the Big Easy, New Orleans, LA! This one is a destination location for certain. The hotel/classroom is only a few blocks from the heart of the French Quarter, so it will be a lot of fun. In February I’ll be back in Las Vegas, NV. Where we have a great space that is far away from the… READ MORE

I’m putting together my lineup of 2020 caricature workshops right now (in fact I’m announcing two locations on Monday), and the new year will bring a few changes to the format. Most of the feedback I’ve gotten from students is nothing but positive, but one thing I’ve heard from both those who take the workshop and especially those who could not take it is that three days is difficult to do. Right now the format of the workshops is: Friday 1-6 Saturday 10-6 Sunday 10-5 Having part of the workshop take place on Friday afternoon requires participants to have to take a day off of… READ MORE

Followers of my blog know I do not often promote crowdfunding campaigns, but every once and awhile something comes along that ticks all the boxes, and that I know will be followed through. This is one of them. “American Caricature” is a documentary film that explores the world of making a living drawing caricatures. That includes the various industries involved like illustration, animation, and especially “live” caricature (i.e. the world of fairs, theme parks, private events, and tradeshows), the caricature community, and the International Society of Caricature Artists big convention/competition. I’m one of many professional caricaturists interviewed for the documentary. The world of caricatures is… READ MORE

Now available by popular demand a print of the other movie prop art I did for the Quentin Tarantino film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”… the early 60’s era TV Guide cover featuring “Rick Dalton” (Leonardo DiCaprio) of “Bounty Law”. This art got just a brief glimpse on screen, right before the closeup shot of the mock MAD Magazine cover. You can get your signed print here. I have to note that while I got several people asking about a print of the TV Guide prop art, I don’t think the demand warrants an actual print run from a real commercial print house like… READ MORE

Back in May at the NCSFest cartoon and comics festival there was a terrific exhibit of original art and memorabilia celebrating Popeye’s 90th anniversary at the Huntington Beach Art Center. The show was packed with tribute art from some big time cartoonists (and me) celebrating the titular squinty-eyed sailor-man. Well, now all that tribute art is going to be auctioned off to benefit the National Cartoonists Society Foundation, the charitable arm of the NCS. Here are the details from the NCS website: 2019 marks the 90th anniversary of the first appearance of everyone’s favorite spinach-munching sailor, Popeye, in E.C. Segar’s celebrated newspaper strip Thimble Theatre. Popeye’s… READ MORE
