Whew! New York Comic Con was intense, hectic and a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table and for all of those who got a Virtual commission here. I’ve got a pile of them to do but will be getting on them right away because I DON’T HAVE ANY WORK TO DO ON CLAPTRAP ANYMORE! That said I really do have a lot of commissions to do. It will take some time, but everyone will get their art in the next week or two. I’ll do another of these virtual events to coinside with my next major comic con appearance, which… READ MORE

The Comics Journal published a story about Desmond Devlin any my upcoming book of movie parodies, CLAPTRAP, the other day. The article featured a look at one of the pages of extra material from the book… this one page “Godfather” gag. CLAPTRAP is a 124 page hardcover book featuring twelve movie parodies and lots of extra stuff like this one pager! The printing process has begun! The book will be here soon! READ MORE

I’m currently the president of the National Cartoonists Society Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the National Cartoonists Society. The NCSF is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization that has several programs including the Milt Gross Fund, which provides financial assistance to cartoonists and their families who are experiencing hardships or emergencies, the Jay Kennedy Memorial Scholarship, which is an annual grant going to a college student of cartooning, and the “Cartooning for Kids” program, where members draw for patients and their families in children’s hospitals and for underprivledged kids, providing art supplies and education. We also sponsor or help support cartooning events and… READ MORE

Here is a big announcement… Tom’s Caricature Workshops are BACK! I am nearing completion of CLAPTRAP, the long delayed crowdfunded book Desmond Devlin and I are doing, and I am beginning to make post CLAPTRAP plans including getting back to doing my two day “in person” caricature workshops in locations all over the U.S., and even overseas! When the pandemic hit in 2020, I was doing eight to ten workshops a year and had multiple ones lined up for the summer and fall of that year. Thanks to COVID I had to either cancel or postpone and reschedule them all. I eventually managed to get most of those in over… READ MORE

I’ll be at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo aka C2E2 this weekend in Artist’s Alley table Y-17! Come by and say hello if you are attending the show! This comic-con appearance is the last one I’ll be doing before CLAPTRAP is sent to the printer, and it will be a last one for many things. After this show I will no longer be doing the “live style caricature” drawings I’ve done for so long. All commissions will now be of the pen and ink variety, either line art only or in full color. I am also getting out of the “limited edition print” business…… READ MORE

I’ll be at Wondercon in Anaheim this weekend, but not at my own booth. You’ll find me at the National Cartoonists Society booth #2000. Yes I will be doing caricatures and MAD cover commissions, plus I’ll have a few prints and books, but not my usual boatload of garbage. Stop by and say hi if you are there! READ MORE

MAD #30 just dropped, and will be available in comic book shops and in subscriber mailboxes soon. It’s a “technology” themed issue, and among the reprinted content is one of my favorite spoofs I drew for the “new” MAD, a spoof of the movie “Ready Player One”… splash page pictured above. This was a seven pager written by Desmond Devlin and featuring seemingly endless cameos of every sci-fi, comic book, fantasy, video game and other pop culture character you could shake a stick at. A collector named Mark Faerber bought all seven pages of the original art from this parody shortly after it came out.… READ MORE
