I have a moderate amount of stuff on the board right now. Today I had deadlines for two jobs, one a workplace poster and one an ad job… both “in the can” as they say in the bidness. The poster job is another of the workplace posters which I can share after I complete, so that is posted below. Other stuff right now includes: MAD– I’m trying to wrap up that two pager from September that got bumped because I have a new one coming possibly today, and it’s going to be a really fun job. There is something to like about every MAD job,… READ MORE

As usual several projects going right now including another MAD job, a poster job, an ad job for a car storage company, another ad job for a mortgage company and a few personal projects. Another job from last month is finally hitting the stands and I can share the art and process with you. This one was odd as I had to do the final artwork while on the road in Orlando, so I ended up at my good friend illustrator and caricaturist Keelan Parham‘s studio and usurped his Cintiq and computer for an entire Sunday while The Lovely Anna and my kids went to… READ MORE

All these jobs from last month are seeing print, so here’s another I can now share. This one was an odd job as it started out way back in June, then got shelved, changed subject matter and finally went to final. The client was Contingencies Magazine, a publication for the insurance and financial industry. The original concept back in the early summer was to do a cover showing primary candidates from both parties fighting over health care issues. The client wanted a few concept sketches, so I did the obligatory “race” concept and one where the candidates were doctors surrounding a patient and trying to… READ MORE

Right now I have several jobs on the board including another MAD job, an ad project, another poster illustration and two other ongoing projects. Last month was incredibly busy and so this month I will be able to begin sharing some of the jobs I did as they start to see print. This one is printed and shipping, and is a good example of how a job can evolve during it’s process. The job was for Scholastic, and originally was a 1/2 page spot illustration to accompany a story about the presidential primary race. It was a different kind of job for me as it… READ MORE

I’m busy right now on the final coloring for two MAD jobs, plus an ad job and another poster after that, then we’ll see if I get a breather. These “On the Drawing Board” posts are getting harder to do, because I can never show what I am working on as most clients don’t want that made public until after it’s seen print. Instead of “On the Drawing Board” I should started calling them “On the drawing board about 6 weeks ago and I’ve forgotten all about it by now…” October may have been the busiest month I’ve ever had freelance-wise… at one time I… READ MORE

Here are a few of the projects I’ve wrapped up in the last week or so… at least the ones that are okay to share at this time: Workplace Poster: This one ended up being a lot tougher to do than expected, as the client wanted the main car on it’s own layer so he could do an animation of the image as well as a static poster. that meant I had to draw the cars parked behind the main car, as well as complete the front and back end of the main car. I also had the foreground cars on their own layer so… READ MORE

It absolutely never fails that if I take any kind of vacation whatsoever I will get at least two jobs the day I leave or find them waiting for me when I get back home. As it happens I have several things from last week to finish up today, plus these two new jobs and one very old job: MAD- Quick little two pager, no caricatures or likenesses which is odd for me. I like these different projects, though… nice break from all that caricaturing. As always, I can’t share more details but will post sneak peeks upon publication. Magazine Cover Job- I don’t get… READ MORE

I’ve been very busy as usual the last two or three weeks… here’s some of what I’ve been working on: MAD– Finished a 3 pager on Tuesday for issue #483. As always I can’t share any images but next week I’ll be able to post some peeks at the job I did for issue #482. By the way, MAD #482 will be a pretty unique issue thanks to their approach to the features “MAD’s look at the 50 Worst things in Advertising”. More on that next week. Magazine Feature Illustrations– For Fade In Magazine, an entertainment industry publication I’ve done occasional work for. This should… READ MORE
