Here’s something a little different for “Sketch O’The Week”. This was a rough sketch for one of several spot illustrations to accompany a story in Fade In Magazine about Hollywood talent agents. The assignment was to do a full page and three spots illustrating some of the points interviewed insiders were making about agents and how they operate. This one was rejected as they didn’t understand what I was trying to convey… the idea was to visually demonstrate how agents like to throw money around driving expensive cars, etc. Of course, a BMW Z-3 is hardly a super car, but I like drawing that car.… READ MORE

I’ve been so busy I didn’t have time to work up a real “Sketch O’The Week”, so here’s something a little different. This is a very rough sketch for a park sample of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson from the new Harry Potter movie. I stole the gag from an SNL skit. I didn’t finish it because compositionally it’s too out of whack. The drawing is too left-side heavy. I tried to compensate with the window behind them, but that won’t do the job. Happy 4th of July! A quick one of actor Jake Gyllenhaal. I struggled trying to draw him for the parody of “Brokeback Mountain”. It was a case where you see something that seems obvious but when you try and draw it, that something eludes you. I thought between the long, narrow face, the hairy eyebrows and the long, girl eyelashes that he’d be easy to draw, but I was not satisfied with many of the caricatures I did of him in the piece.
