A little less ambitious than “Sketch O’The Day“. Here’s a quick study of Ed O’Neill from his “Married… with Children” days. I saw in the news that this is the 20th anniversary of the show. Back in “the day” I penciled 20 some issues of a comic based on the show for NOW Comics. I posted a while back about those days, but sometime in the future I’ll post some more stories. I drew the actors so many times I think I could pull off a decent caricature of any of them out of my head to this day. I could probably draw the living… READ MORE

Rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg, quick sketch and value study for a possible park sample. My old Snoop drawing needs replacing. Since I’m planning on doing a fair amount of live drawing this year, I’d like to come up with 12 new samples. Ordinarily I’d pick new subjects but Snoop is still relative and a better example of him is in order. READ MORE

Jessica Simpson squeeze and musician John Mayer. The picture I drew this from was about the size of a nickel. Just a very quick study. I know nobody has noticed, but all of last week thorough today I have been in Massachusetts getting my park near Springfield, Six Flags New England, up and running. I pre-posted most of this stuff. When I get back maybe I’ll have some pictures from the roadtrip. READ MORE

A very quick sketch of Summer Glau, who plays a character called River Tam on the TV show “Firefly” and in the movie “Serenity”. She’s got an odd, buggy eyed look, and I tried to push that along with the pursed mouth a bit more than the likeness could handle, I think. I caught “Serenity” on HD-DVD this past weekend. Not a bad movie, although I felt a bit left out having never seen the TV show. Obviously the film was aimed at followers of the TV series and very little time was wasted on character development or explanation that might have helped out those… READ MORE

If there was ever a poster child for the seedy side of becoming famous, she is it. I bought an entertainment mag with Anna Nicole Smith on the cover intending it as reference for this sketch at a train station bookstore. The clerk who rang me up immediately offered me her opinion on the matter. “Double murder”, she says. She’s probably right, but it’s the circus of it all that makes me cringe. READ MORE

Hard to believe pitchers and catchers are reporting to spring training this week. Baseball season is right around the corner. Here is a quick study of Boston Red Sox slugger (and former Minnesota Twin) David Ortiz. Twin’s GM Terry Ryan is a wizard at trades and knowing who to keep and who to let go, but this was one of his few glaring mistakes. READ MORE

Still haven’t seen Blood Diamond. I’ve heard mixed reviews. Here’s one of Leo DiCaprio: I spent a bit more time rendering this one than usual. I’m sorry there hasn’t been much art posted here lately. Mostly I’ve been working on MAD jobs. The powers that be at MAD pointed out to me the other day that even sketches and preliminary drawings done on projects for them are their copyrighted property (MAD is work for hire), and they preferred I did not post any work in advance of the publication of the material in the magazine. I totally understand and respect that, so I will not… READ MORE
