Sketch o’the Week- Jackie Gleason!

September 8th, 2021 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

Here’s another classic sitcom star that was conspicuously missing from that “History of the Sitcom” illustration I did for CNN… the “Great One”, Jackie Gleason! As always, the original is available in my Studio Store. READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- Ed Asner!

September 1st, 2021 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

I’m old enough to remember both “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Lou Grant” when they were originally aired on TV. I was a bit young to watch MTMS (I was 11 during its last season) but my parents watched it so I saw it through osmosis. “Lou Grant” aired when I was in junior high and my first few years in high school. The thing I remembered most about “Lou Grant” was my initial confusion as to how the same character went from being in a comedy to a drama. I expected to see Lou as the comedic character, but in this new show… READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- Charlie Watts!

I had to draw rock legend Charlie Watts for the “Sketch o’the Week” after he passed away yesterday at age 80. What an amazing legacy he left behind. I was never a Rolling Stones fanatic but I’ve always been a rock fan, and you can’t love rock and roll and not appreciate how great the Stones are. RIP. READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- The Bundys!

August 11th, 2021 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

This week’s sketch is another TV show that could have been part of that “History of the Sitcom” piece I did for CNN… Katey Sagal and Ed O’Neill as Peg and Al Bundy from “Married… with Children”. As always, the original is available in the Studio Store. This show has a special significance to me because from 1990 to 1994 I did the pencils for about 25 issues of the “Married… with Children” comic book for NOW Comics. That was a lot of drawings of the Bundys done by a young artist whose skill set still needed a lot of work and growth. Fortunately I… READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- Alec Baldwin!

July 28th, 2021 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

No time for a real sketch today, so here’s something from a few years ago. I did this sketch and color final of Alec Baldwin for Comedy Central for a roast they were doing of him in 2019. It was supposed to be used for a giant head/mask they were thinking of creating for part of the show, but I have no idea if or how it was ever used. Here’s the color version: I remember they had me tone down the chipmunk cheeks and some other parts, so the final does not have as strong a likeness IMO. Welcome to Hollywood. READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- Dick and Mary!

July 21st, 2021 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

One of the unfortunate things about that “History of the Sitcom” illustration I did for CNN earlier this month was that so many terrific and landmark shows were not included because we couldn’t include them all. Of course we only had so much room, and the CNN folks gave me a list of who they wanted me to draw. There were very few pre-60’s sitcoms represented. So, I thought I might draw a few of the characters from some shows that weren’t included but were certainly worthy. This is a big one… “The Dick Van Dyke Show”! Here’s Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke!… READ MORE
