Sketch o’the Week- Bruce and Siggy!

December 16th, 2020 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

No time for a “Daily Coronacature” again today, so here’s a peek at one of my annual “Holiday Caricature” commissions. This is one of the few that was of famous people as opposed to personal ones of family/friends of the buyer. I’m not sure why Bruce Springsteen is being analyzed by Sigmund Freud, but I just does the draws that I’m told to draws. This is done with brush pens and copic markers on bristol. READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week: Dukes of Hazzard!

December 9th, 2020 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

I’m taking a week off of my usual “Daily Coronacature” subject/caricature Wednesday. Instead, here’s a “Live Caricature” style drawing I did for my NYCC Virtual Artist’s Alley event of Sorrell Booke and James Best as Boss Hogg and Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane from the 1980’s TV show “The Dukes of Hazzard.” READ MORE

Daily Coronacature: Ray Liotta!

December 2nd, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Here’s my caricature of Ray Liotta as “Henry Hill” from the movie “Goodfellas”. This is an example of a caricature where the exaggerations are based more on the expression than the actual features. Ray Liotta actually has a very small mouth and quite round eyes with long, dark eyelashes. However the point of this caricature is to capture the insanely over-the-top laughing his Henry Hill character does in the famous “Do I amuse you?” scene from Goodfellas. That means exaggerating the mouth and its crazy shape, the smaller, squinted eyes, and the body language. Extreme expressions like this means it can compromise the likeness. If… READ MORE

Here’s my caricature of John Goodman as “Walter” from “The Big Lebowski.” And yes, this is another example of the sketches I’ll be doing in your copy of Des and my upcoming book CLAPTRAP if you pre-order at the “Schmendrick” level! Only a few Schmendricks left! Or, you can always buy this original in the Studio Store. READ MORE

Daily Coronacature- Anya Taylor-Joy!

November 18th, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Here’s my take on Anya Taylor-Joy. What a face this gal has got. She has very obvious features to exaggerate with the eyes that seem twice as big as eyes are supposed to be, plus they are extremely far apart. However that’s only part of her unique look. She also has unique and sharp lips, a widish jaw but very high angles of her mandible bone, and a tiny little chin. There is nothing about her look that is not very distinct, which makes drawing her a lot of fun. Who said you cannot caricature beautiful people?? Original of this one is available in the… READ MORE

Daily Coronacature: Nicolas Cage!

November 4th, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

I couldn’t resist drawing Nicolas Cage as Hi from “Raising Arizona”. It’s one of favorite Coen Brothers movies. As always, the original is for sale in the Studio Store. Caricature Notes: This is a good example of caricaturing “presence” as much as physical features. I am really doing a caricature of Cage’s character from “Raising Arizona” here, but as always having multiple pictures and from different angles helps build your caricature. Looking at the different references, I see Cage as having a long face with a very long and thin nose, close set eyes, and a lot of forehead. READ MORE

The Daily Coronacature: Steve Perry!

September 30th, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Here’s my caricature of today’s “The Daily Coronacature” subject, former Journey lead singer Steve Perry. Caricature Notes: Age plays a part in a subject’s features, but even if you are drawing a caricature of someone at a younger age I find pics of them older help me see things to exaggerate in their younger version. Steve has a very prominent nose, but the latter day pics of him show me how wide and rounded his lower face is, how small his eyes are, and how he actually has a pretty small mouth for a guy known for belting out big songs.
