Sketch O’The Week

Daily Coronacature- Chadwick Boseman!

September 2nd, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Like the rest of the world I was shocked to hear of the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman at age 43 last week. While I thought he was great as King T’Challa in the MCU and as Jackie Robinson in “42”, I had no idea what a terrific human being he was as well until all the stories and tibutes to him started appearing. It’s sad that so often we don’t take the time to know and honor people for being as kind and generous and heroic as Chadwick was until we have lost them. RIP. Study notes on Chadwick Boseman: As always, we look… READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- Willie Nelson!

August 26th, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Today’s “Daily Coronacaure” subject: Willie Nelson! The original sketch is available in the Studio Store. Caricature notes: Looking at various reference pics of Willie I see him having a wide face shape, small eyes, and a lot more mass in the jaw/chin area than the top of the head. He also has enormous ears, and a downward-turned smile. READ MORE

This was actually yesterday’s subject, the lovely Raquel Welch. This is a “live caricature” style drawing. Actually it’s one of the commissions from my “Virtual San Diego Comic Con” event. I’m slowly getting through the list! READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- Salma Hayek!

July 29th, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Here’s my take on the beautiful Salma Hayek. She’s got a lot of jaw area with a small mouth, so there’s a lot of real estate at the bottom of her head shape, which in turn makes her forehead seem smaller. READ MORE

Tom’s Daily Coronacature- Salvador Dali!

July 22nd, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Here’s my take on Salvador Dali. Between his “10 minutes after 10” mustache, the buggy eyes and his mugging for the camera, he’s a lot of fun to draw. READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- Marlon Brando!

July 1st, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Here’s my take on Marlon Brando for both my SotW and Tom’s Daily Coronacature. This is another good example of doing a caricature of a character as much as of the actor. Brando would often transform himself in roles to the point of being almost unrecognizable as himself. In “The Godfather” this was particularly true. The make-up played a part but it was the way he spoke, held his head with the heavy jowls jutting forward, had the sleepy-lidded eyes, that created the “presence” of Don Corleone. The makeup created the thick eyeliner/lashes and the “mumps” look in the jaw. Those are the things one… READ MORE
