Here’s my take on Marlon Brando for both my SotW and Tom’s Daily Coronacature. This is another good example of doing a caricature of a character as much as of the actor. Brando would often transform himself in roles to the point of being almost unrecognizable as himself. In “The Godfather” this was particularly true. The make-up played a part but it was the way he spoke, held his head with the heavy jowls jutting forward, had the sleepy-lidded eyes, that created the “presence” of Don Corleone. I’m under the gun with several projects right now so I’m copping out of a new Sketch o’the Week today and posting this instead. It’s is an older sketch I colorized and used in the background of the MAD parody of the show “Mike and Molly” back in MAD number something-or-other. A young William Shatner was notoriously hard to caricature but the more… uh… mature Shatner is a little easier subject. READ MORE
This week’s sketch is of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, one of caricaturdom’s favorite subjects (original available in the Studio Store). I did a quick version of Tyler from the same photo reference for my inking demo at my workshop in Las Vegas this past weekend, and I liked the expression enough to give it another shot in my Sketch o’the Week.
