I’m still traveling abroad so this week’s Sketch o’the Week are some very quick digital sketches of three of the stars of the TV show “Better Call Saul”: Bob Odenkirk, Rhea Seehorn and Michael Mando. These were done as class warmups at one of my workshops. What I do is ask the class for a show or film as our warm up subject, then I do a websearch for some of the actors on the show and we do quick warmup drawings, so no one knows what’s coming. 5-10 minutes max. I’ve included the references we drew from: READ MORE
I’ve gotten a number of inquiries as to when I will do a caricature of the 45th President to update my president’s poster: Well this is it, but it was not for the poster. I’ve actually licensed several of these individual images since I did them for various purposes. A publisher from the northwest recently licensed all of the them for an educational book about the U.S. Presidents, but they needed them in color and of course they needed Trump. Back to one for my “Classic Rock Sketch” series, this week’s subject is the late, great satirical rocker Frank Zappa! You can purchase the original in my Studio Store. READ MORE
This week’s SotW is from my inking demo at my workshop last weekend. One of the things I do at these workshops is demonstrate my inking and color techniques I use for MAD and other clients. This caricature of “The Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons was drawn and inked on the spot (in fact I asked the class to suggest a subject and then Googled up an image as reference) using Pelikan’s Drawing Ink A, a Hunt 102 and a #2 red sable brush. The straight lines was me demonstrating how to ink straight lines using a brush or pen nib/Crow quill. Speaking of… READ MORE
Back to being under the gun with deadlines. Here’s an old one but appropriate after Apple’s big announcements yesterday: Apple co-founder and tech deity Steve Jobs. READ MORE
Deadlines are still killing me this week, so here’s another throwback sketch out of an old sketchbook I ran across recently, probably from around 2011 or so… Ryan Reynolds. READ MORE
