Sorry but I have to cop-out on this week’s SotW as I am frantically trying to finish up a big MAD job, among other things. Therefore this week’s sketch is a rough of a recent illustration from Penthouse, one of my ongoing series for the header of rocker Dave Navarro‘s advice column in the magazine. READ MORE

Clicky any to embiggen… Better late than never today… had another job due this afternoon that had to get done first. So, this week’s SotW is one of the two pieces I did for the latest issue of MAD. Originally I was supposed to do only the art for the parody of “The Swallowing” for MAD #525 (now on news stands… Fa Fa Fa!), but then the editors decided they also wanted me to do the art for the #1 “Dumbest Thing” in MAD’s “20 Dumbest People, Events, and Things of 2013”. I can’t imagine where they got the idea for me to do this… READ MORE

Plus I don’t think as much about the quality of the pencil line and am therefore a bit looser with the work, leading to drawing more with the inks. MAD #525 will be on news stands December 17th. This week’s subject is superstar director JJ Abrams. JJ is a huge fan of MAD Magazine, so there is clearly something wrong with him. However, he makes great movies and TV shows, and I recently did a little project for him and sent this sketch to him as a thank you along with the original art. At some point I will be able to share the art I did for him… it was a sort of personal commission so nothing as exciting as a Star Wars illustration. I did ask to be paid for the work by being cast as a Jedi in the next… READ MORE

Well, not really a sketch today… too busy with a couple of projects I will share later. This was a study of U.S. President John F. Kennedy I did for, of all things, an animated commercial for gold investment company SwissAmercia. This Friday marks 50 years since his assassination in Dallas, Texas. READ MORE

This week’s subject is conservative political pundit Bill O’Reilly. Good, old-fashioned pencil on paper. READ MORE
