I know I’m supposed to be drawing the various Doctors from Doctor Who, but I just pulled two all-nighters in a row and I don’t have the energy. Tomorrow will be a bonus SotW of the Third Doctor. In the meantime, here’s one of Bill “Bubba” Clinton from a very recent job. READ MORE

Here we have doctor number two in our ongoing series of caricatures of the actors who have played the good doctor on the classic sci-fi series “Doctor Who” in honor of its 50th anniversary. . . this one played by Patrick Troughton. By the way, I have to thank my good friend and ?¬?ber-talented cartoonist/animator Eddie Pittman for giving me a wealth of inside info on the doctors. Incidentally, if you are not reading his outstanding webcomic Red’s Planet, then you are really missing out on something special. There is a permanent link to the comic on my blogroll on the right. Next week: Doctor… READ MORE

I know I said I’d be starting a series of caricatures from The Walking Dead this week, but considering the show ends for the season Sunday that’s bad timing. Instead, in honor of his 50th anniversary, I’m going to start a Doctor Who series of the different actors who have played the intrepid main character. In chronological order, of course! First up, the very first Doctor, William Hartnell. EDIT- For those not familiar with the blog, I post a caricature sketch every Wednesday. This series will be weekly installments, not daily (sorry! I have loads of work to do!). Look for the second Doctor in… READ MORE

Clicky to embiggen… Have to cop out this week and post this rough sketch of a recent workplace poster job, as I am swamped with several projects right now. I’ll get to that series of “Walking Dead” SotW caricatures starting next week. READ MORE

This week’s SotW subject is one of the stars of “The Walking Dead” (and one of my favorite movies, “The Boondock Saints”), actor Norman Reedus. Today’s sketch is done today in celebration of the occasion of Mr. Reedus’ annual shower, which is rumored to happen just before St. Patrick’s Day whether he feels he needs it or not. EDIT- My twitter feed blew up yesterday with a few people upset by my gags concerning Mr. Reedus’ hygiene (most people enjoyed the joke). Good Lord, people… it’s a joke. You have to admit Norman looks like he just rolled out of bed in every picture you… READ MORE

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film, “Dr. No” in 1962, here are small studies of each of the actors to officially (i.e. star in an EON Production) play 007 in the movies: Clockwise from top right: Daniel Craig, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan,¬¨‚Ć Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby. Due to popular request, this week I’m posting three recent caricatures from my quickly dwindling number of available Limited Artist’s Editions of my book, The Mad Art of Caricature, complete with observations from the references I worked from: Sam here has a very wide head shape, accentuated by the close, flat lying hair on top but bushy, round hair on the sides. Those are some great shapes to work with, especially the way his bangs hang down from the strong part in his hair. Jose has a big grin…the sides of his lower face extend and come to pretty sharp angles at the jawline.… READ MORE

Have to cheat this week as I am swamped. This is an old sketch of Steven Spielberg I ran across recently cleaning out a flat file drawer, circa 2002. It was the original sketch for the theme park caricature sample below. As you can see I decided to widen and shorten his lower face a bit, and give him a “cheekier” look. The color sample is a better likeness. READ MORE
