Sketch O’The Week

Clicky to embiggen Another cheat this week, as I am currently winging my way to San Francisco for those speaking engagements I listed Monday. This is the pencil sketch for a recent workplace poster illustration. Actually it’s not the rough, which I usually post, but the transfered drawing on illustration board ready for inking. I am purposefully loose with this stage so I can “draw” more with the inks. I’ll post the finished art tomorrow. I promise next week I’ll be back to original SotW drawings… it’s been a rough summer. Another cheat this week, as I am swamped trying to get caught up after Comic-Con. This is a rough of Dave Navarro for a spot illustration for Penthouse. READ MORE

Okay, so it’s not really a sketch. It’s actually a spot illustration from an old job I ran across recently. This one reminds me of a story from about 20 years ago during my live caricature drawing days when I had a run in with a theme park manager . . . I was working at one of my theme park concessions in 1992 when one of the newer members of the park’s “management team” came up to the booth and asked if I was the owner. “Yes,” I told her. Still super busy and not able to get to any fresh sketches for the SotW, so this will be another (and the last, I promise) small peek at that mystery project I have posted other peeks of the last month or so. Just to reiterate…these are not for a MAD spoof of The Avengers (although I am doing that one for them, still awaiting the script), nor anything else for MAD. It was for another client and was a really fun job . . . I’m looking forward to seeing the printed piece this fall sometime. READ MORE

Still recovering from Las Vegas, so this week’s SotW is another glimpse at the mystery project I posted a sneak peek at a few weeks ago. No, it’s not from a parody of “The Avengers” or anything else from MAD. It’s from the pencils for an extremely fun project that shall remain nameless until sometime this fall when it’s publication is announced. READ MORE
