Our Sketch o’the Week series of ink-wash caricatures of the cast of “LOST” continues with this one of Naveen Andrews, who plays the former Iraqi Republican guardsman and interrogator Sayid Jarrah. I was informed by my neighbor Kim, a fellow LOST fanatic, that if my next subject was not Sayid she would have me killed. I live to draw another day. READ MORE

This week we continue our Sketch o’the Week ink wash caricature series countdown to the May 23rd finale of “LOST” with the fetching Evangeline Lilly AKA Kate Austen. Each week I am planning on doing one of these ink wash studies of one of the major LOST characters. That means nine more until the finale… or until I get bored with it. I’ll try and stay focused. Rather than my usual pencil drawing I thought I’d try something different for the SOTW this week. This is an ink wash study of LOST star Matthew Fox. READ MORE

I’m too busy to do a regular sketch this week so here are a handful of rough sketches for a (fairly) big storyboard job I am working on. I removed any references that might give anything from the film away. The following is part of the opening and closing of a short animated segment where these two squirrels are gag characters… A bunch of other stuff happens in the scene, and then we go back to the squirrels… I haven’t done storyboards since college, but it’s a fun and interesting exercise… pure drawing and storytelling with little concern over the finishing process. Last year I participated in a charity fundraiser called “National Doodle Day“, which auctions off drawings and sketches by a host of artists, authors, actors, directors and celebrities each year in May. The proceeds benefit Neurofibromatosis Inc., a “non-profit organization whose mission is to provide services to individuals with Neurofibromatosis (NB) and their families. NB is an unpredictable disease that cases tumors to form on your nerves, sometimes resulting in disfigurement, paralysis, deafness, blindness or cancer.”- From the Doodle Day website. I received my packet for my doodle contribution a week or two ago, and took the liberty to do my “sketch o’the week” directly… READ MORE

Better late than never for the “Sketch o’the Week”. After all that writing about the unedited Robert E. Howard Conan stories now available I couldn’t resist doing a sketch of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1981 role that launched him to action hero superstardom. I remember seeing that movie in the theater as a kid (don’t recall how I got into an “R” movie at age 14… I suspect I might have used less than honest means). The film is a weird amalgamation of elements from many different Howard stories, and was cheesy fun. I just noticed I forgot to put the gum on the bottom… READ MORE

I am seriously under the gun with a deadline, so no time for a new sketch this week. In honor of the season premiere of LOST here’s a old sketch of one of the show’s stars, Michael Emerson. aka Benjamin Linus aka “that bug-eyed bastard”. READ MORE
