Sketch o’the Week

Click for a closer look I ran across this partially completed ink drawing of “The X-Files” stars Robert Patrick and Gillian Anderson (this was when David Duchovny had left the show for his brilliant film career) from a number of years ago and thought, given the new movie coming out, it might be somewhat timely. I did the drawing just for testing out some new ink nibs and different kinds of ink when I was experimenting with different tools. You can see I used a sepia ink for some of it, which I found way too watery. In fact there are four different inks on… READ MORE

I’m afraid I have to cop-out again this week and resort to a sketch I did as part of some roughs for a product illustration job. This time it’s the democrats we made some fun of. Sorry about the crop. One of these days the item will be released and I can show all the artwork I did for the project. READ MORE

This week’s sketch is of Harrison Ford, the aging star of the new Indiana Jones movie, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull“. Am I the only person in the world who has zero interest in this film? I’m old enough to be able to say I sat in a real theater as a fifteen year old kid and watched with my jaw hung open as “Raiders of the Lost Ark” exploded on the screen in 1981. The other two movies were also enjoyable (although they had their problems as well) and worth making and watching, but nothing will ever be able to… READ MORE

No time for a real sketch this week so here is one of the small preliminary drawings I did for a politically orientated product job a few weeks ago. This one is of “Mr. Honesty” Carl Rove. One of these days I’ll be able to post the finished art from that project. READ MORE

A quick study of Saturday Night Live‘s Andy Samberg. He’s got this incredibly thick neck and small cranial mass. An interesting face to draw. READ MORE

Not very ambitious this week, but here’s a very quick and cartoony study of George W. Bush. It was actually one of several sketches I did early on in a product illustration job that I just wrapped up. READ MORE

Quick warm up study of Greek TV show star Spencer Grammer. I had just read a blurb about this show yesterday and that she is the daughter of Kelsey Grammer, better know to the world of course as “Dr. Henry McCoy” AKA “The Beast” from X-Men: The Last Stand… oh and I guess a couple of TV shows as well. I’ve had a few requests to post the photo I worked from with these sketches as well. I won’t have time to do that very often but here’s the pic I drew this one from: I have no idea at all if my caricature looks… READ MORE

I added some simple color to this pencil sketch I did last week of actress Kim Basinger in order to incorporate it into a job I was working on. Very rough and blocky, but it is such a small element in the job I didn’t want to spend much time on it. This is about 10 minutes of slapping some digital paint around. READ MORE
