It’s been a while since something as cool as this has arrived destined for the Wall of Shame. Longtime SNL cast member Bobby Moynihan had an extra copy of the prints he made of my group caricature of the 2016-2017 cast of Saturday Night Live–he gave a print to each cast member as a gift–and had them sign it for me. Clicky to Embiggen… When one of the main writers of the Showtime show “Homeland” saw the MAD parody written by David Shayne and drawn by me, he contacted me to ask about getting some prints of the splash page. Naturally I obliged, but I added an extra print asking for some autographs by the cast for me. The Wall of Shame has a new resident! This summer Jack Black and Kyle Gass signed autographs at the National Cartoonists Society booth at San Diego Comic Con along with illustrator Luke McGarry, promoting their summer charity music event. I took the opportunity to get them to sign an oversized print of my splash page from the MAD parody “Fools of Rock”, from MAD #438, Feb 2004. I printed a copy out for each of them. Probably used it to line their cat’s litter box. At least I got a nice piece for my studio wall! READ MORE

Clicky to embiggen… MAD Magazine has been around for a long time, and was both an influence on and/or a favorite of, many kids who later grew up to be famous/influential professionals in film, TV and other entertainments venues. As a result, every once and awhile when I do a TV show or movie parody in the magazine, one of the producers, directors, writer, stars or some other person involved in the creation of the show ends up being one of those kids who loved MAD, and contacts the magazine looking for the original artwork. Clicky to Embiggen… I actually received this one earlier than the¬¨‚ĆMike & Molly print I blogged about the other day, but hadn’t had a chance to scan it in yet. This one came courtesy of series star Jim O’Heir, which plays poker with a friend of my friend, caricaturist Jim Batts. I sent two copies of this print to Jim (O’Heir, not Batts), one for him and one for me with the signatures, but he unfortunately had the cast sign what was supposed to be his copy, thus my own signature is on this one, personalized to him. Clicky to Embiggen It’s been a long time since I got a new piece for the Wall of Shame, but this arrived in the mail the other day and is going to be proudly framed and hung in the studio. Technically, since I redid my studio the “Wall of Shame” that previously existed on the walls outside my studio now reside inside the studio on several walls… the concept still lives, however. To wit, the newest addition to the “Wall of Shame” just arrived the other day and is on it’s way to the frame shop. After said framing it will proudly hang in the studio as a member of the WOS.
