Cover for MAD #9
July 23rd, 2019 | Posted in General
Since Quentin Tarantino and Jimmy Kimmel showed this off on the Kimmel show last night, MAD officially released the cover of #9 on Twitter today so I can share it here. Art by me but if you are looking at it and thinking “those look just like Jack Davis feet” you’d be right… I was instructed to channel Jack as part of the whole retro early 60’s vibe. There’s a lot more story to all this but I have to wait until the issue comes out to spill it.

Even the reward is cheap, I love it!
And I was just thinking, “it looks like something Jack Davis would draw.” 🙂
Even though, as of now, it’ll be only the covers that are new, I will look forward to covers like these. Even a little tanning around the edges. Like little posters. Worth every penny.
Yes the art department and specifically AD Suzy Hutchinson really killed it on the details with the cover and the vintage look of the interior. Spot on, right down to the paper color and aging discoloration.
Honestly this will go down as one of the all time classic covers. Love it. Its a rare Tom Richmond cover, channels Jack Davis, Tarantino film, Tarantino inspired and appears in the film I believe, first Leo cover (?), throw back Mad logo and look and coming in the last days of Mad as we know it. It really is amazing.
