“Glenn-efit” Auction Ends Sunday!
This two page splash of MAD’s “House of Cards” parody is up for auction…
Just a reminder: the online auction to raise money for Glenn Ferguson, the caricature artist who was brutally attacked on New Year’s Day by a disgruntled former co-worker and severely injured, ends Sunday at 10 pm Eastern time. This auction is being organized by the International Society of Caricature Artists, an organization I was once president of.
Glenn is doing well in his recovery but has a very long road ahead of him. He’s been home for a couple of months and is doing all his therapy and rehab on an outpatient basis. In many respects doctors as extremely pleased with his progress and he is ahead of where they expected him to be, but that is a relative concept. Glenn is having to relearn many things like vocabulary and communication skills, his eyesight has been compromised, and he is a long way away from being able to even attempt to do the thing he loved to do most and was exceptionally good at… drawing caricatures. Glenn’s recovery will take time and be filled with frustration and pain, and his livelihood has been denied him for now. He and his wife JoAnn cab use all the help they can get.
To reiterate: 100% of the money raised with this auction (less the costs of shipping the art to the winning bidder and any costs the auction website charges) goes directly to Glenn and JoAnn Ferguson. So, go there and bid on my MAD piece, or one of the other pieces of art.
Don’t procrastinate. It’s over April 10th at 10 pm east coast time.

“House of Cons” is a perfect example of why I enjoy MAD even when I’ve never seen the parody target (which is the case with House of Cards). The quality of the art and writing in the two-page splash posted above is just so high, it’s impossible to not get something out of it. I’d say the same about a lot of MAD’s TV and movie parodies from the ’60s and ’70s (ie. before I was old enough to get plugged in to pop culture). Thanks to Tom and the MAD crew for ALWAYS delivering the laughs and the satirical excellence!
