Halted Halloween
The last few year’s running The Lovely Anna and I have dressed up for Halloween and met friends out on the town for a little fun and costume gazing. This year because we have older kids and they have activities, parties, etc., we were unable to leave the house until about 10:30 pm. Fortunately the friends we were going to hang out with were eschewing the craziness of downtown Minneapolis for a club in the ‘burbs close by. Therefore we planned to go out late and got our costumes together.
Anna went as “bad Chinese food”, making a takeout box and fortune cookies with chopsticks. I went with “Indiana Jones”, but the current version i.e. old and decrepit. We spend several hours on Friday getting our costumes in order. I spent about an hour applying the “old man” makeup. I also airbrushed my hair solid gray using white watercolor paint. I looked like one of my drawings from MAD, with band-aids and pieces of tape criss-crossed all over my clothes.
Unfortunately things did not work out as far as going out on the town. Everybody ended up going downtown instead. Downtown Minneapolis on Halloween at 11:00 pm means long lines on the sidewalk waiting to get in to any decent club. Since it was so late, we had Number One Son Thomas snap these pictures, washed off the makeup and called it a night.
Oh well. Maybe next year.

Wow! That costume looks fantastic! Especially the old man make up.
Do you have a picture WITH the old man make up on? D’oh!
Nice. I can always count on Ed “Muffintop” Steckley to help raise my self esteem.
Actually Tom,
That’s what Harrison Ford probably did on Halloween night. Turned in around 11 pm
you guys looked great – clever costumes!
Nice! Sorry you couldn’t make it out. I saw a couple Indianas out and about, but nothing remotely close to that theme. That definitely would have been a hit!
