Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor!
February 1st, 2014 | Posted in General
Uhhhhhh….. NO.
That’s it. First Ben Affleck as Batman, now THIS? I will not be seeing this movie in theaters. Next we’ll have Zooey Deschanel cast as Vicki Vale and Ashton Kutcher as Green Lantern. Makes as much sense. It’s over.

I say give it a shot. Remember how people reacted to the news that Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker? And remember how pleasantly surprised we all were? I’m just curious to see where they’re going with this cast.
I usually try to have that mindset whenever I hear about a ridiculous casting choice, however Heath Ledger put his heart and soul into that role and that’s why he surprised us all. He let Bale beat him up in the interrogation, he wore his own make up to the first day of filming and he locked himself in an apartment in order to perfect the role!!! The one thing I am looking forward to in this film is the new batsuits which I guess are a total reinvention. I want this movie to be great, however there are a lot of odds against it…
I don’t know, I actually like this idea. I’m not saying I care much about this film in the first place, but Jesse Eisenberg has already proved he can play an arrogant genius jackass extremely well in The Social Network. For that reason actually, I’m only worried about what he can bring to the role we haven’t already seen from him. But it’s not like it has to be bad, just a different interpretation of a character who could use one at this point. Also EVERYONE scoffed at the idea of a Heath Ledger Joker, shouldn’t we have learned better at this point?
And lets not forget Michael Keaton AS BATMAN??? An actor who played a dopey bastid in “Night Shift” along side Henry Winkler,I mean OMG! But it worked, lol! Just sayin.
I guess this means Lex Luthor will use the power of social media to portray Superman as a threat to metropolis…
Ashton Kucther as Green Lantern makes about as much sense as Ryan Reynolds in the role!!!
The Heath Ledger comparisons should have Ledger spinning in his grave. No question many disagreed with the casting, but he had proven he was an amazing actor playing roles ranging from comedy to tragedy to Oscar worthy performances. Eisenberg has played variations on the same role, the nerdy, neurotic, socially awkward wimp. Where’s the gravatas? Where’s the menace? Is he going to worry Superman into oblivion?
Whatever. zack. Snyder doesn’t have much of a track record with good films. Sucker Punch was awful. Watchmen was ok.
While I agree with Snyder’s track record, I’m basing some of my faith in casting in that Nolan is still in charge of the final product. I’m hoping that Eisenberg can do better than he has shown previously…and that he’ll shave his head! Affleck is actually a decent actor, and I’m one of the few people who enjoyed his run at Daredevil, cause he had a passion for the character like he has with Batman and Superman. Wonder Woman casting I’m iffy on. But with all of this, we can all make our minds up after its released. Its not going to please everyone, but hopefully they will make something good out of it.
Tom, I’m just curious how you’ll feel once you get the assignment to use your talent to draw these characters in a possible upcoming MAD spoof. Come on, the thought has to be somewhere in the back of your mind that you may be stuck in a theater actually paying attention to the nefarious Lex Luthor played by the guy who talked himself out of having a girlfriend in The Social Network (that said, I really liked Eisenberg in that movie).
I would be lying if I said I was not hoping to get that assignment when the day comes.
What concerns me more than the casting is that Warners is trying to stuff the film full of other characters, perhaps in an attempt to fast-track a Justice League flick! Guess they can’t wait to get some of that “Marvel’s Avengers” box office! Oh,and I’m also concerned about the advance posters for “Amazing Spider-Man 2” showing 3 villains! Too bad Marvel Studios aren’t making those, since they seem to have a great game plan (Sony has Spidey, while X-Men and Fantastic Four are still at Fox).
