MAD #14 Sneak Peek- Olympic Cheats!
MAD #14 is a tribute issue to the recently officially retired Al Jaffee, who is inarguably one of the greatest cartoonist to ever put pen to paper. The issue is full of reprints of some of Al’s notable pieces, like his first-ever “Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions”, and some famous ones he’s either written, drawn, or both. Even the reprinted movie parody of Steve McQueen‘s “Bullet”, drawn by Mort Drucker, was written by Al. It also contains his final original fold-in, which he did in 2014 in anticipation of his retirement.
A few other articles are new ones inspired by some of Al’s famous features. Over the years Al did a lot of “invention” type gags, where he would make up devices and gadgets to solve problems. In this feature, writer Desmond Devlin channels Al’s inner Thomas Edison and comes up with gadgets to cheat your way to a gold medal in the Olympics. Drawn by your’s truly.

Have you ever thought of creating your own characters for a comic, and writing it?
Yes. I’ve just never had the time to do it. Maybe now I will. 🙂
