As I mentioned before I’ve been watching Entourage on HBO recently. Great show… I find myself laughing out loud a lot… many time because of this man, Jeremy Piven:

It’s a very common between artists, the “need to the Deadline Demon in the window syndrome”, every artist I know including myself suffers this and its consequences, the “why must I stay all night finishing this when I could finish it last week syndrome”.
Javier.
When I’m asked how long it will take me to do an illustration, my answer is always “How long do I have before it’s due?”. If the deadline is in three weeks it takes me three weeks. If It’s in three days it takes three days. It seems like no matter how much time I get to do something, and how hard I try to work on it early, I always end up cranking it up a notch to meet the deadline. I think I need some pressure to stay focused and I can’t apply the pressure to myself with a random goal.
Of course I have three things to motivate me to get going on this parody as early as I can. First, MAD pays on delivery not on publication, so I get a check when I’m done. Christmas is coming and Anna needs some new shoes! Second, MAD wants to assign me another job in December, and this one is not due until January. If I get it done by mid December, they are more likely to assign me a meatier job that month rather than a two pager of some kind. Third, since I already am scheduled for a piece to be in the issue with the January deadline, I likely will get that month off, and it’s extremely rare to know ahead of time I will be having a month off. Anna and I have our yearly Mom and Dad only vacation planned that month and it would be nice not to have deadlines to have to work around (at least not MAD deadlines).
Your Ari Gold does look good.
