MADness #65- Sopranos!
It’s Monday already? We leave the gun but take the cannoli with this week’s peek at yet another whack job of a piece I did for MAD Magazine. This was part of “The MAD List of 20 Dumbest People, Events and Things” of 2007., entitled “Alternate Sopranos Endings that Would Have Been Better”. This appeared in MAD #485, Jan 2008. There is no writer’s credit so it was written by the MAD staff.
I remember watching the Sopranos series finale with The Lovely Anna in our basement home theater. This was back in the days where TV shows aired on a certain day of the week, at at a certain time of the day, and viewers would tune in at that time to watch it because there was no “ondemand” streaming. Novel, I know. When the music stopped and the screen went black, we though the power had gone out! Turns out it was just an anticlimactic non-ending.
Here’s the pencil sketches:
If you are wondering why the intro copy is a complete non sequitur, it’s just placement copy… it probably was from the previous year’s MAD 20. It was not unusual for the department headers or intro copy of a feature to be greek text or some old copy, since the staff would often write it or makes changes to that stuff just before the issue went to press.
Thanks for reading another disappointing entry in our chronological crawl through my work at MAD magazine! Toon in next week when we look at another weird pseudo advertisement/promotional piece disguised as an actual article!
