In honor of the sixth season of “Mad Men” just finishing up recently, here are assorted pencil roughs, final pencils, inks, close ups and full pages from the parody of the show from MAD #508, written by Arnie Kogen. Awesome work Tom. Would you mind sharing the visual references you are being provided with or you which search yourself, to complete this kind of project. Like the video stills etc. This is specially in context to the almost cinematic angles you create, like the positioning of the scene involving crows. Have you ever done Story boarding I mean seriously.
in the page 4 final art have you used a wooden pattern, even in the window , is it a ready made patern or manually done . Plus do u use a ruler sometimes to draw a line, and also node based art using the pen tool somewhere in between.

I don’t keep the references I used so I can’t post them, but I did do that once here for a Mailbag question I think for my “30 Rock” parody, specifically of Alec Baldwin. The Pigeon panel was not from a still or specific reference. Very few (really none) of my panels or illustrations are derived from a single reference. I’ll do a post about that sometime. As for the wood grain effect you refer to, that’s just painting, not a texture or filter.
