NOTICE: Book is PRE-ORDER Only

August 26th, 2011 | Posted in News

This week I have started getting a few PayPal transaction disputes from people who have ordered the book and are wondering why they haven’t gotten it yet.

Huh?

I am sure I have been very clear about this- all orders right now for the book are PREORDERS. The printing process is going on right now, as we speak (figuratively), in Korea through Asia Korea Printing, and the bound copies will shortly be shipping to me here in Minnesota. Printing was delayed somewhat by come color/value issues with the proofs, but that has been resolved and I had taken possible technical delays into account when estimating shipping dates. We are still on track for shipping copies in September, it’s just going to be late instead of early in the month. It takes a long time for thousands of copies of a book to ship from Korea to the U.S., as it comes by ship and train.

If I was not clear about the fact that an ordered copy of the book will not ship immediately, and that anyone who places the order is looking at late September (and actually we have so many pre-orders that new orders are looking at early October before we get caught up with fulfilling all orders) as when the books will ship, then I apologize. If this is making you nervous, please email me with your PayPal order number and I will issue you a complete refund and remove you from the shipping queue, which will be fulfilled in the order in which it was received. Please DO NOT open a “PayPal Dispute” to do this… those are for disputing transactions where the seller is not living up to their guarantees… and that is not the case. Note that you will lose your place in the shipping queue if you do this, but I don’t want to keep anyone’s money who is not comfortable with the wait.

I will be sending out a book printing update email on Monday or Tuesday to everyone who has placed a pre-order via PayPal.

Come on, people! Every single posting about the book mentions that it’s shipping in September. Don’t just look at the pretty pictures in this blog…READ!

Hey Tom, I can’t understand why people are acting like that as you were totally clear about when the orders would start to be shiped. In my case, as I am far away fro US I even can’t expect it before november. I know how it works! But for me this is not a problem at all. Only one thing I won’t tolerate: If you miss my autograph! =)

You were abundantly clear from the beginning. I can’t imagine anyone misunderstanding that it was a pre-order. Geesh.

I’ve had this same problem from a few people whenever I have t-shirts pre-orders through my online shop. It’s come to the point where I have GIGANTIC RED LETTERS on the product and order confirmation pages, reminding them that they’re gonna be waiting a little bit longer. I honestly think some people go 100% blind when it comes to online shopping.

I haven’t placed my PRE-order πŸ™‚ for your book yet, but I certainly will very soon!!!

  5. Tom says:

I’m glad the consensus is that I was not unclear. To be honest, the handful of disputes are a small fraction of the number of pre-orders, so I cannot complain. However i wanted to be sure I was not misleading people.

  6. Sadly, I have heard similar tales from people I know in the webcomics community, when publishing there own anthologies. Some how there are always idiots who think that because the are sending you money when you specify that this is a preorder that they are going to get it in a couple of days. Idiots…can’t live with them, can’t shoot them….

  7. Lee Fortuna says:

Well Tom at least your book isn’t being delayed 4 times like the Jack Davis book I pre-ordered! 1st it was due for release this Aug, then Oct then Nov & now it’s Dec! But I did some research on the publisher, Fantagraphic Books, and it turns out they are notorious for release delays! But as with your book it’s worth the wait! And now I have to go out & buy a rowboat, hurricane Irene is a comin!

  8. krishnakumar says:

Is this book available in india???

    • Tom says:

The book is available anywhere there is postal service, since it ships worldwide from the United States.

  9. Andy Dolphin says:

I’ve been on the ‘net since the early nineties and just made my second-ever online order! Look forward to receiving your book next week Tom. Just kidding πŸ™‚ But I do look forward to reading it. Thanks.
