I’m not really crazy about this or the Tom/Katie covers lately. They are too photo realistic and not as creative as in the past. Is this a temporary thing or the new direction MAD is moving in?
These covers are by Mark Fredrickson, who has been the primary cover artist for MAD for the last several years. MAD has had primarily realistically rendered covers over the years, with Norman Mingo and Kelly Freas in the old days, and in latter days Richard Williams, Roberto Parada. C.F. Payne and Mark. It’s definitely not a new direction, but Mark’s digital painting style has a different look to it… not as painterly as the rest of those on that list. That may be what seems new.
